Why I'm in Love with MotoGP

Having a very small real world appreciation for the sport, all I can say is that the guys who do this stuff each weekend are not of this world. How they can throw around a 350lb, 250HP motorcycle like its a Honda XR50 is just beyond me. Marc Marquez is showing everyone a new way to get around a race track this year, and its absolutely spectacular to witness. From yesterday's open test at Brno:

Those angles...seeming to defy physics. Apparently that is 68deg.

MotoGP=donut free zone.

No angles...

That's a perfect recovery and really amazing to think how fast that all happens.

Good lord! In the third photo is half off the bike but still on the gas so hard the front wheel is off the ground!

If you look at the tire marks you can see where he tucked the front tire. Pretty quick reactions to push the bike up as far as he did, as quickly as he did. Then, to see him that hard on the gas at the exit of the corner...

I saw Pedrosa tuck his front wheel in the race last Sunday and thought, "well, that's it he's crashing and loosing the race" and then he just straightened it up and kept going!

As much as you can see on TV, it still doesn't do these guys justice. They are literally about to crash in every turn!!!

Yes, and all of those other rubber trails make it clear that power sliding superbikes through corners is the new norm in racing.

Simply awesome.

Sliding bikes through corners is nothing new. Kenny Roberts was famous for it back in the late 70's. They've been doing it ever since. What isn't as obvious when watching them is they are also sliding the front tire, just not as much.

I went to YCRS a year ago and Bradley Smith was a guest instructor. He is a great kid and he worked with me for a bit and we hit it off and got to talk some too. He puts "almost crashes" level at about 75% of the corners on each lap. I think he stepped it up and has moved more of those into actual crashes this season.

Time for Alpinestars full titanium wear.

And remember the days when the Bostrom bros. came onto the scene?

When Danny Sullivan won the 1985 Indianapolis 500 he was asked by Johnny Carson who he admired in the racing world.
Sullivan said, "GP motorcycle riders. Who are those guys, anyway?"
.
Just watched a recent interview of Nicky Hayden wherein he said that M. Marquez is willing to ride harder and risk more than any other rider in the moto world.
.
"Marc Marquez has the potential to change the face of MotoGP, reckons Ducati rider Nicky Hayden."
.
Marc Marquez will change MotoGP, predicts Nicky Hayden - MotoGP news - AUTOSPORT.com

Every ten years of so, one of these guys comes along.

Gary was exciting but exciting leads to career ending injuries
Glad to see the next exciting guy is on the scene

Great vid - Thanks! Scary stuff hitting those speed bump gaps.
Ought to call that "The Running of the Two-Smokers."
Brings to mind the old Group B (Killer B's) rally crowds so close to the course.

Nice bikes - Yes, Marek Rosin. Tell Marek what really gives him away is that Auz Rack on the 996....Been to AU 3 times and seems every bike there has that thing.

....Passing thru Red Lodge Sept 18. The 3 of us should have a beer on my way into the Billings Best Western that day? Coming in over Beartooth.
