I don't really have a problem with this.

The reason why is apparently the cop was breaking the law and not while apprehending bad guys - he was just being sneaky while on traffic duty.

The video author made a good point about why the police are supposed to use marked vehicles when they pull someone over. The comment about his daughter. That made sense to me.

I applaud this dude for knowing the law, the cop for admitting he was wrong, and think it's a good lesson for us all to try and learn more about the law, perhaps.

sometimes it hurts to find out we're slackers when it comes to defending our own freedoms.

I don't like the idea of 'baiting' cops but that's not what we saw here. the guy was respectful and stuck to facts.

Careful- In many areas, it unlawful to video or record a cop without their consent.

I know there is no reason to beat up any citizen in todays world. There are plenty of good cops out every day. Sad that black guy selling cigaretts in New York city didn't get tased, because without a video it would have been them, the cops, vs. us, the people, and us usually loose.

They drive black chargers and have recently redone the graphics on the ones they use for traffic enforcement.

While it says in big bold type POLICE down the side the graphics are all black making them a marked vehicle that effectively is unmarked.

I had a guy try to pull me over using the lights hidden in the grill, no light bar. I drove to the nearest DPS station(state troopers in Texas) Guy in uniform gets out of the car, and a few came out of the station to see what was up. Guy that lit me up was pretty hot, why didn't I pull over, blah, blah. I told him there was no way I was pulling over on the side of the interstate for an unmarked car. He ended up writing me a warning for 78 in a 75.

I agree that the officer in the OP would almost certainly not have been as well behaved if there was no video camera. I bet they are still using unmarked cars for traffic enforcement too.

That said, I do have a problem when police infringe on our freedoms, like when there is a border patrol set up 20 miles in from the border! (Look up "Am I being detained" on Youtube for countless examples). I think the guy on the video has a basic understanding of his state's laws - but there may very well be exemptions to those laws that allow police to operate unmarked vehicles in the very manner in which the police officer in the video was doing. He was very smug in his holier than thou approach - that is absolutely not necessary.

If that guy has such an issue with unmarked cars, and he really wants to make a difference, he should go to his town counsil meetings and make them aware of the laws, and request action to taken. But that approach doesn't get you too many Youtube hits...

I always hear you should drive to the nearest police station if you suspect trouble. But there are very few times I'm driving anywhere that I know where the nearest police station is.

I think there was a lawsuit in NJ a few years ago about cops sitting on median strips with cars totally darked out at night. Now they have to have their parking lights on or something to make them visible at night. A few mos. ago I was coming home after a gig at 3am and there was a motorcycle cop parked on a sidewalk with all lights off, looking for red light runners. I think it's pretty dangerous for anyone to try to be invisible around moving vehicles.
