Racial Profiling.

I sold a cellphone on craigslist the other night. The person that was meeting me in a well lit and popular eatery in Fullerton told me that they would be there in 15 minutes. I informed them that I was a middle aged white male wearing a White polo shirt and blue genes.

The person informed me a few minutes later that they would be there 15 minutes later than planed.

So 15 minutes later she showed up with a male friend and mentioned that it was her "body guard" !

Wow!

Was the person you were selling the phone to non-white? I guess that's the only way this makes sense. Didn't see that in your story.

A woman meeting someone from a Craigslist ad probably has reason for caution. Doubt it has anything to do with racial profiling...didn't sound like your description was much to fear, but if it were someone I cared about...I'd go along for the ride as a "bodyguard" too.

You added the white part, which could've been a red flag......she was just being careful which is smart....
Had you not even brought it up she would've most likely still showed up with said body guard ..

^^This^^, though I'd really downplay the "white" part as having any bearing on her actions. She was very prudent, IMO, to bring a male friend when dealing with any purchase off of Craigslist or any other anonymous public forum, for that matter. I have three daughters and I would hope they'd do the same thing under similar circumstances. Don't read too much into this situation beyond safety for a female buyer.

The guy wasn't her boyfriend. and yes she wasn't European. And Blue jeans! not genes!

Shaun @ Tru6 10-26-2014 02:37 PM

should have said mom jeans.

Gogar 10-26-2014 02:52 PM

I informed them that I was a middle aged white male wearing a White polo shirt and I would be wearing mom jeans and a front-loaded waist-pack travel organizer.

"The phone's in my organizer here. My arthritis . . .. could you just reach in there and grab it for me?

The BODYGUARD line is great......It keeps it a level playing field

Porsche-O-Phile 10-26-2014 03:56 PM

Talking about your genes and DNA probably threw up her caution flag.

You should've been all- I got a white polo shirt, converse shoes and NO PANTS.

Either that, or you were breathing hard on the phone ;)

Women generally have a tendency to freak out when you ask them what they're wearing-

and you've never met 'em.

Stupid I know but...

I've met ladies ON DATING web sites and they've brought a friend along on the first date.
Thinking back it's understandable but still it just seems strange.

No, that's not understandable. Your gut instinct was right.

Did any of those dates work out for any amount of time? :)
