A Sticky Situation
There’s a sickly crippled gent that lives above my office and is very nice. Although he is majorly screwed up physically he goes to work every day doing hard manual labor. He was allowed to board upstairs by the landlord so he could also take care (“super”) of the building. I always say hello but I never knew his name.
He stopped in very early this morning saying that a package would be coming for him and would we accept it. Sure we told him. The package arrives via USPS and is address to Denis (super). No last name, spelled with one N, mind you no one knows his name. Just so happens that one of the field “supers” that works in my company is named Denis. He’s from Ukraine and spells it with one N. One of the girls up front brings the package over to Denis, my field super and he opens it, after all it is addressed to Denis (super) with one N. Lo and behold there are two vacuum sealed flat packages of grass, Maryjane, you know, pot. Also with it (on top) is a child’s game, sand art. Now everyone is quite stunned at this and the carrying on ensues. “What shall we do”/ “Call the cops”, etc, etc. I ask my shop guy what the dude upstairs name is and of course it’s Denis. Uhh, what’s the chances that they are both named Denis with 1 N and are both supers of sorts??? I carefully reseal the box with duct tape just like it arrived and told everyone that it is not our business and to let it be, nothing ever happened. Let the dude pick up his box. I say no harm / no foul. The dude is prolly using it for himself as he is really twisted physically and not well. Live and let live I say. Whatya think? |
You are a good man.
|
Maybe he likes playing sand art while stoned? If you're worried about possible child abuse then keep your eyes open for other signs. Otherwise, live and let live.
|
You have several choices:
1. Do nothing. 2. Tell him to move to Colorada. 3. Tell him you are sympathetic to his situation. After all if you were in his shoes..... 4. You could always move. I did that years ago when the upstair occupants in the house were dealing drugs. Could he be a dealer? This could be the basis of a new party game. Uh good luck! Pick one. Guy |
I'll keep my eyes open for sure. Can't move. Not a dealer. The dude is bent in half facing the other way.

You did the right thing
|
You did the right thing. There but by the grace of God.....
|
Is there a danger that one of your co-workers might decide to notify the cops? Could the situation get stickier down the road?
|
Did you do a field test on the green leafy substance? Are you sure it was an illegal shipment? ........ Then I think you did the right thing.

Give the old man back his vacuumed sealed oregano. He has pasta dishes to make.
He isn't a dummy. He left someone else to accept the spices. |

You should have immediately called either the police or your attorney.
Follow the rules, don't break the law, and you won't get in trouble. remomber, you are the one who will have to pay the fine or do the time, not the people who are telling you that "you did the right thing" And for goodness sake don't post it all over the interwebs when you've just committed a misdemeanor and possibly a felony! |

Good lord, it's weed, not heroin. I'm sure the cops have better things to do with their time. He probably uses it to ease his pain. Not worthy of a second thought.
|
it was oregano..seriously.
|
Why are we having this discussion in 2014?
|
if you want to fix societal ills volunteer your time to search out child molesters and heroin dealers.
that said I'd be miffed that a guy put me at risk to accept drugs. maybe as others said he's smarter than you think and never intended to personally accept the box. |
You did the right thing.

I will have a discussion with him for sure. I am pissed he put me in this position. Package did not require a signature.
