Sauna

Anyone have a sauna. Tell me about them. How big do they need to be? Outdoor vs indoor. Do they help with arthritis not as a cure but for temporary relief. Thinking of getting one but don't know where to place or the technology for heating.
Thanks in advance for any info.

I live in N Central Florida. I have a natural, outdoor sauna 6 months or so of the year.

I'd be surprised if there was any real medicinal value. Essentially, sit in a room and sweat. I would guess that a hot-tub or Jacuzzi, besides being a whole into which you dump money in the form of chemicals, may have some short term value with aimed jets, etc.

I think swimming or proper exercise might provide a better result...at much lower cost. But, perhaps a Chiro or such will chime in.

My parents have a steam room at their house. It is like magic for sinus and upper respiratory problems. I would disagree with Mike that there is scant medical value. The Sacramento Valley is pretty much the world capitol of seasonal allergies, so it does come up.

I have a sauna in my new to me home. I've tried it out, but it's about the same as mowing the yard in the summer. No way would I pay to have a new one installed.

Mine is indoor, holds two, is infrared. I like the pool much better, the hot tub comes in next.

Up here we've got the largest Finnish population outside of Finland.
Everybody has a sauna.
At the cottage we have a wood fired sauna with rocks - it's great
Get it fired up hot, throw some water on the rocks for steam and relax.
When you get enough courage, run out an into the 60 degree lake.
You feel revitalized - or dead from the 100 degree shock to your system.

Grand father was Finnish, my dad has a sauna. His is 220 electric fed. Basically finished out a small basement room. Probably 6x10'.

He needed to cut a floor drain to an existing fitting about 15' away. Not wanting to deal with some wimpy tool like an electric jack hammer (or a simple sledge hammer) , he rented an Ingersoll Rand compressor and a 'real' jack hammer. The compressor was on a trailer, gas fed. Huge. Evidently the hours of setting up the whole deal was worth the 7 minutes it took him to break out the concrete, most of that time spent wrestling the air hose.
