i am pretty sure that i read somewhere that some of the pollution in our pacific northwest can be traced back to china/beijing.

Yep the entire plant is screwed thanks to humans reckless polluting. Some areas more than others.

I thought they had coal fired plants close by and the wind going the wrong way will make a big mess.

I was in Beijing last year for a month...swear to God, after two weeks my lungs started feeling like they were caving in(and I am in very good physical shape).

Powerplants, industry and cars all contribute heavily to the problem...it's just like the US at the start of the industrial revolution.
