New research strongly suggests that a piece of aluminum aircraft debris recovered in 1991 from Nikumaroro, an uninhabited atoll in the southwestern Pacific republic of Kiribati, does belong to Earhart’s twin-engined Lockheed Electra.

The search for Amelia Earhart is about to continue in the pristine waters of a tiny uninhabited island, Nikumaroro, between Hawaii and Australia.

According to researchers at The International Group for Historic Aircraft Recovery (TIGHAR), which has long been investigating the last, fateful flight taken by Earhart 77 years ago, the aluminum sheet is a patch of metal installed on the Electra during the aviator’s eight-day stay in Miami, which was the fourth stop on her attempt to circumnavigate the globe.

Sounds like parsing or legalese to me.

I hope they dig down about 20 feet under the spot where they found it and find MH370.

That would make for an excellent new agey TV show.

I heard there are dozens of Amelia Earhart's planes buried in the burmese jungle and they are preserved like brand new!

Several years ago some guys from TIGHAR came to our Civil Air Patrol squadron meeting and told us about their exploits. They said a skeleton of a Caucasian female was found somewhere near where they thought this wreck was some time after WWII. The local authorities couldn't identify so they cremated the remains a while ago. They don't seem to be talking about this now that they're trying to raise more funds to play Bob Ballard lol.

Anyone see the special on this that the history channel aired sunday 7/09 ?
