Travel from New Haven CT to Atlanta GA?
We need to get our son from New Haven CT to Atlanta GA and back for Thanksgiving.
What's the best way to get to LaGuardia or Hartford? Bus? Limo? Train? Some kind of shuttle? |

My dad used to take a limo from the airport to Westport, but it was filled with travelers to keep costs down.
Does Carraige Limo have similar arrangements to keep costs down? I've asked my son to ask other students how they get to the airport but haven't heard back yet. |

I have flown into both many times - I would fly into Bradley over LaGuardia any day. NYC will take a few hours to get back and forth to New Haven. I will take about an hour to get from Bradley to New Haven via shuttle. I have done it in a cab as well and it has a flat rate. $75 bucks I think but it could be cheaper. Shuttles are much cheaper.
Does he go to school there? Yale? UNH? Quinnipiac?

He can always take the train to Grand Central and then a cab to LGA but there are plenty of limo services in the area.

LGA is the worst airport in the US. I would rather fly into TF Green and take a bus then use LGA...

Bradley is definitely more convenient.
I flew in and out of LGA for 30 years usually at least once or twice a week. Hated the shorter runways and getting thrown forward in the seat during every landing. Plus lots of circling over Harrisburg in the summer when T'storms were around LGA. Don't miss any of that now. |

He goes to Yale.
I did a search and came up with CT Limo, which picks students up right outside his dorm room. $54 for students each way. First time, so we'll see how it goes. Christmas is next. Where's Bradley? Quote:

Its in Windsor Locks north of Hartford by about 20 minutes. CT Limo would be a great choice. I lived in New Haven after graduation. I had two room mates - a couple. He was working on his PhD in AI at Yale and she worked for the mayor of New Haven. I was living the Big Bang sitcom way before it was a show! I swear now looking back she was a Penny and he was such a Leonard. He would have his friends over and they were ridiculous smart ultra geeks but couldn't drink and were awful at cards (over thought everything). Actually it was pretty fun. Yaleys are a good lot.

even if it costs a bit more, it's well worth it to avoid having to go into the metro area.
white plains for sure. |

$54 for the limo to where? Sorry if it was already made clear.
You can definitely take the Amtrak to NYC, then some train to the airport. Bit of time and $$ though, if the limo is to NYC airport, it's a steal. My nephew is a junior @ Yale, I'm going to try to visit him soon. Great school and campus. ![]() |

It's from the campus to the airport. Although it's called CT Limo, it could be a mini van taking him and others. Being the first time, we are trying to keep it simple.

Got curious about flights out of White Plains, NY. (Westchester County)
They have flights almost directly to you. https://book.jetblue.com/B6/webqtrip.html;jsessionid=13BD29EEC4A99BF196EB757FF C4E4787?_flowExecutionKey=_cF9021708-9286-A3B0-9107-079293A66885_k0D7ED7C7-F943-CBCB-8D88-A67B87AC2EBA Not sure how he would get to White Plains? Also, Newark, NJ airport, might work for you as well. The train to NY also stops at Newark (next stop or 2nd stop after NYC). There is a train/light rail or bus that goes from Newark Penn Station to Newark airport. Maybe he should just take the train all the way? By the time goes to the airport then sits for 90 minutes to 2hrs, takes off and lands and then goes from Atlanta to SC, it will probably be the same amount of time, maybe even less? Just a thought.

I worked in Bridgeport for three years, and also traveled to Bridgeport many other times when I was working in the DC area.
We always flew into White Plans if we could. Even in a limo the traffic getting to LGA (or any of the other NYC airports) sucks...there is simply no reasonable way to handicap the time required to drive into NYC area so White Plans was our best option. Good luck. Quote:

White Plains to New Haven would take a little over an hour - prolly about the same amount of time to get from Bradley but one of the challenges may be the cost of a air ticket from White Plains NY to Atlanta vs. Bradley to Atlanta.
I have never flown into White Plains - maybe it makes sense? Its just outside of Stamford CT. Might be a very good option...

Good ideas guys. Thanks.
Flights out of Hartford were a little more $ and time. On the bright side, he's 19 and will live through which ever way he goes. ![]() |
