I got roughed up by a waitress last night.

What do you think of this?

The Lido Cafe and Bar in Wellington.

First of all the waitress shoulders me out of the way. Possibly by accident because she was looking the other way while she was charging ahead through the restaurant, possibly because she was in a stinking mood.

I changed tables to a recently vacated table because I didn't want to sit next to an open door all evening and she looked furious about this. I was taking a sip of wine when she was clearing the next table and she whacked my elbow so hard the wine glass nearly knocked my tooth out. I told her to back off and to watch her attitude. She just kept yelling it was an accident. I had to tell her a couple of times to shut up and let me finish my sentences. I called for the manager who was as bad as she was. He said he was defending his staff and wouldn't listen. I asked for the owner of the place on the phone (who I know well as I've been eating there for over 15 years) They wouldn't do that nor would they give their names for me to take legal action regarding payment of dental bills.

I had been hit so hard my nose was even sore from my front tooth being pushed up so hard.

I stayed for the meal and drinks with my long time dinning buddy, but I don't think the $120 was money well sent that evening.

Think that I would contact the owner and make him aware of the situation.

Sheesh! Sounds like dining out isn't for the meek or mild when you live on the bottom left corner of the world!

I don't think I've ever had a waitress yell at me ever in my life, (unless it was a waitress I was dating and she was off work)
let alone hit me in the elbow while I'm taking a drink and not even apologize.

This is surreal!

I'm pretty pissed off about it. I know the owner David George reasonably well. after having dined there every month or two for the last 15 years or so. I'm planning on writing him a formal letter and seeing a dentist too. Them paying dental of course. But I'm still pretty pissed off so not thinking logically. I was thinking of seeing my lawyer but that is maybe getting too carried away.

I'm sure we could have worked out some sort of apology between us.

You stayed? They probably wiped their asses with your sandwich. Not at all saying you deserved it. But I personally wouldn't eat at a place where I had a run in with any of the staff.

My edit

Call the owner, don't call a lawyer... owner can fix things... lawyer will just make things worse (no offense meant to the lawyers here).

How about that. Sounds like she was in acute need of an adequate spanking.

That was a test. I had a very good look at the meal to see if waitress had spat in it and if she had my lawyer would have been brought in. I took the attitude why should I leave because of this rude b*.

From the way you tell it sounds like two attitudes met at the wrong time and place.

You had to tell her to shut up several times?

Sounds like you were lecturing her.

One thing I know for absolute certainty, never ever piss of the wait staff BEFORE they bring the food.

A) The waitress just found out she is working a double because one of the relief staff didn't show. Plus it's deep clean night so after she finishes her normal side work she has to wipe down all the light fixtures and polish table tops

B) She just got totally hosed by the table she was clearing

C) The manager just started banging the other waitress

D) The waitress is on the fast track out of that house

E) All the above

If you know the owner and are a long time patron then I think you're all set. Loyalty goes a long way in the service industry - guest loyalty that is. I worked with a bartender, senior bartender, who got fired for cutting off an obviously drunk but very rich regular who was being inappropriate with the female patrons. Strange business.

None of this would have happened if you brought your own coaster.

LOL.

Thanks guys. I'm starting to feel a little happier.

The place was understaffed. But that's not my problem. Under our "Fair Trading Act" patrons must receive a reasonable standard of service etc.

Maybe you should settle this Smith and Wesson style.

Picking on a waitress at a place you've been to for 15 years? It's not like you don't know the place, the people, or what the vibe is like. Maybe you should not have taken that other table by default. Afraid of a little wind? Didn't you know what places to sit after being there for the past 15 years?

Grow a pair. Men don't fight women. She said it was an accident. You seem to always be inches from her. What's up with that? Maybe you had too much wine. I'd like to see the video surveillance footage. Your story doesn't add up.
