"Spoilers"...does it really???

I'm not a "sports guy" per se. I follow mostly motorsports (NASCAR being the exception) and the UFC/MMA stuff has really grown on me. But I've never really understood this concept of the "SPOILER". Like some how knowing the outcome of an event would keep some one from watching and enjoying it; DVR, youtube, re-run, etc. I mean isn't there more to the event than just the actual, final outcome? That's often the most anticlimactic piece. The fun is in watching it all unfold, even if you know how it does.

Even with movies. If it's a film with actors and a director and a story that interests me, I could careless if someone has spoiled the ending for me!!!! I still want to see the damn movie. There is so much more to the event than the ending.

Really, please, wait, don't get off my lawn....tell me how you feel!

I guess, take today's F1 race. So Hamilton won and won the 2014 WDC. So if someone had this DVR'd to watch at a later time, knowing this would wreck it for them? It was a great race wrought with lots of drama and excitement. I will likely watch it again, a few times, and I will enjoy it every time!

OOOPS, spoiler alert!

I hate watching something knowing what is going to happen. Hell, I usually won't even read a description of the episode of I'm watching Netflix or something. I feel it ruins the excitement or anticipation if you know what's coming next.

Let's say you are watching F1 on a 1 hr delay and your favorite driver is battling for first, you wouldn't be pissed if your buddy texted you "haha maybe your guys mechanics should have built that engine better!" Now you are just watching and waiting for the engine to blow, instead of watching every pass, and hoping he can pull off a win.

I can't stand spoilers, they ruin it for me.

I guess I see it as the overall experience! I still enjoy watching it...even if i know what's gonna happen. I am passionate about motorsports (more so than football, basketball, baseball, et): I yell at the TV, shake my fist, say things under breath, but I've ignored "spoiler alerts", and still enjoyed the event as though I had no idea.

And I guess to this point, it is often fun to discuss the event...what unfolded...to debate. I didn't mean to imply that I didn't care. Just that I would still watch with baited breath even if I knew!

The fact is that it does ruin it for some people. This is why we put the phrase ''Spoiler Alert" in the titles of spoiler threads...

True.

And I guess I feel that if someone stumbled onto the outcome (because "SPOLIER ALERT" was not clearly posted), that individual would some how not go on to watch the event they were savoring. And I think that's ashame. But perhaps I am wrong in thinking they wouldn't still watch...

I thought you meant the slab of metal or composite on the rear of a car?

But for what its worth, I'm not sure a spoiler works all that well on from wheel drive cars.

Yes. There is of course that "spoiler"!

Just because a person does not want to know the ending of an event or movie - doesn't mean they don't want to enjoy the entire event or movie.

Can't we do BOTH?

As a book guy I can ignore spoilers for the most part. Of course this means I get to read and enjoy books and stories more than once.

Exactly. Maybe the OP and some others don't care, but I care and I know lots of others do, too. So don't give the final outcome in the title of the thread. It's common courtesy.
