A Hockey Legend Passes.

Big Jean Beliveau passed away last night.

I remember him during his playing days when I cheered for the Montreal Canadians in the late 60s and early 70s. Watching the Habs in those days was pretty inspiring for a young hockey player.

Wonderful to see some of the tributes to him on the sports networks this morning.

Very possible. It was mentioned this morning that he was released from hospital.

That may be good or bad news....

Jean was truly one of the great Habs players of his era! A true CLASS player that carried the C for the Canadiens for ten years!

Although we followed him at the tail end of his career, as he retired in 1971, he was often emulated on our outdoor rinks and in road hockey with our neighbours and friends....."Jean Beliveau..numero 4...Y' lance la rondelle, Y' conte!!! (He shoots , he scores!)

RIP Jean Beliveau....le Gros Bill!

A legend to be remembered (even if he was a Hab ).
I think its just a matter of time for Mr Hockey but hey, we still have a lot of golden oldies left.

Great photo!
Jean is either looking up at the clock or a puck in the air. Bobby does't have two hands on his stick and even though it looks like his eyes are closed he is probably looking at how much room he has to get by that net.

Thanks for posting that.

Those were the good old days...

Clean play, not too many fight, lots less injuries and Captain that could lead, not base on "I'm the highest paid so I got to be the Captain

Like I said earlier, Jean was a true CLASS player. Even though not everyone that follows the NHL likes the Habs.....I know, it's really hard to believe such a concept...back then pretty much everybody respected Jean Beliveau because he was such a gentleman. I'm not sure on the actual facts here but I sincerely doubt he had any fighting majors....wow! No fights in some 17 years in the NHL!...can you believe it!

JB you will be missed!

Current NHL: two penalties on the play; hooking/obstruction (stick across the body impeding progress), holding (hand is closed on the opposing players stick).

I've heard many times that Jean was a gentleman on the ice and even more so off the ice. A true ambassador of the game.

If that point man is fifty feet tall, you might be right....
Zoom in on the photo and have a look at the where his eyes are focused.

Fantastic ceremony for Jean. Very well done.

It was quite a gathering.

I did not remember that is last Stanley Cup was Ken Dryden first one.

Pretty fitting as he is also a class act.

Salut Gros Bill

JJ I too wasn't aware that JB's last Stanley would be Ken Dryden's first. Ken Dryden would then go on to win 5 more with the Habs.

"Pretty fitting as he is also a class act.....until he joined the Liberals!"

^^^There! I fixed it for you JJ!
