Moving

So it's pretty official now, we're moving to SW Florida. I'm pretty excited - ready for a new challenge, hopefully more time to spend with my kids, more time doing what I like than what I'm doing now at work, newer bigger house (3 car garage, pool/spa for the kids) 10 min to the beach etc. I've been really stressed leading up to this, waking up in the middle of the night, etc, but it seems to be coming together now. Moving in Jan. Anyone down there?

bell 11-30-2014 06:26 PM

I'm in Orlando area......moved here around 6-7 years ago from northeast ohio....best thing I've ever done......

onewhippedpuppy 11-30-2014 06:44 PM

Congrats! Sounds like you're moving for all of the right reasons.

Jim Richards 12-01-2014 01:52 AM

Congrats, Brian. It sounds like a great move.

id10t 12-01-2014 03:38 AM

Where in S. Florida exactly? It is like a whole different state compared to us here in N Florida...

bell 12-01-2014 03:57 AM

Thanks jim.......i wouldn't be a professional porsche wrench of things didn't happen as they did.......5 years into this gig now and love it

ckelly78z 12-01-2014 05:23 AM

I really like the Sanibell island area, but it gets real desolate down near the alligator alley freeway. You'll have to keep an eye out for the tropical storms that come through occasionally.

URY914 12-01-2014 05:48 AM

It's traffic grid lock for about four months of the year in SW FL. :(

weseeeee 12-01-2014 08:26 AM

Congrats, I'm a little North of you on the East coast. I moved here from Michigan in 84 and I've never regretted it for a moment. Good luck!

P.S. Moving sucks........unless it's to a warm climate:)

Brian in VA 12-03-2014 05:02 PM

Thanks guys. Naples, id10t. Guess I'll have to start looking for a boat (kidding). Yep, we've gone from NE Ohio to VA to SW Fla now. My wife said this is as far south as she goes, haha.

bell 12-03-2014 05:32 PM

What part of ne Ohio do you come from?

pc100porsche 12-03-2014 05:46 PM

Naples ... nice place, was there last year.
How do the real estate values compare ?

Brian in VA 12-03-2014 07:00 PM

Bell I grew up in Cinci, and my wife & I lived in Toledo for a while.

Real estate is a little higher in Naples (not counting the $20-68 million mansions on the water)

Flyfishing for bonefish seems to be the thing to do.

Have fun, and I'm sure you won't miss the winter.

john70t 12-03-2014 07:12 PM

I'm going down to Sarasota in a few days.
If any Pelicans want to meet up, PM me for phone #

I'm near Findlay, Ohio which is about 50 miles South of Toledo/Michigan line. I have been all over the East coast of Florida due to my BIL being in DelRay/Boynton Beach area, but have only made it to the left coast once and loved it. The east coast is nothing but a traffic jam most of the time, I don't think I could handle that.

dmcummins 12-04-2014 03:32 AM

I moved to Punta Gorda this year, so far we are realy happy we are not in the St. Louis area.

I love boating, and FL is typically considered as the best state to own a boat. There are some beautiful waterways and beaches, I think a boat would be my first FL purchase.

sand_man 12-04-2014 04:09 AM

I am from Sarasota and miss it dearly. My family is still there. I left in '95 after I got married. Moved to NC for better job opportunities and have spent the past 20 years regretting my decision to ever leave. I'm now divorced and stay in NC to be near my kids. One day, I'll be back...

Haha yep picked a really stupid name.

pc100porsche 12-27-2014 04:11 PM

What date you moving ?

Brian in VA 12-27-2014 05:02 PM

The movers are loading the truck Jan 10, we're heading down the next day or the day after (pray for me - two kids, 2 dogs, and the girls annoying cat!) Excited but just now realizing how much I've still got to do to get ready.

Rick V 12-27-2014 05:12 PM

Fleeing Va seems to be a popular idea. I am in the waking up in the middle of the night stress phase, of our move issue.
Congrads

Brian in VA 12-27-2014 05:15 PM

Haha yep just saw that thread.

Jim Richards 12-27-2014 05:21 PM

Wishing you smooth sailing for your move to FL, Brian! SmileWavy

Rick, good luck with the trip out west and have some great interviews!

Rick V 12-27-2014 05:23 PM

Jim is also another future Va refugee

Brian in VA 12-31-2014 12:40 PM

Well.....
My wife who is a good driver hit some guy and probably totaled her car. The girls are all fine thankfully and the car was old. Still not great timing. With holidays etc won't hear if it's totaled till Fri or Mon, which doesn't leave much time before the move to do anything. Even if not, it means driving a rental down and flying back later when it's fixed. They can't really fly down & meet me (well maybe they could but would also be pain). Oh and can't get a car loan before closing on the house. Etc etc. oh well, it odly hasn't really bummed me out for some reason.

Rick V 12-31-2014 12:43 PM

I would help you out but your moving on my birthday and I am going to be old and stuff. Glad no one was hurt, lets hope it is totaled and you will only have to move a check.
Good luck

Brian in VA 12-31-2014 12:58 PM

Yeah I'm betting it will be, old car, front end looked pretty bad, leaking coolant at least.
Happy birthday Rick

Rick V 12-31-2014 01:06 PM

Hey when you get to Fla, say hi to my friend Liz and my buddy Jim.

Brian in VA 01-05-2015 05:37 PM

Will do. They totaled it, which is probably easier, and we got more than I thought for it. Off to buy something tomorrow.

Brian in VA 01-16-2015 02:01 PM

Well... we made it down to Naples. My wife picked a good house, and can't complain about leaving highs in the 20s for mid 70s. 911 is on the way now. Lots of good car spotting, Bentleys, Masers, R8 today, and tons of old dudes in brand new 911 cabs haha :)

fintstone 01-16-2015 03:12 PM

Congrats!
