Volvo S60 Transmission Woes...
Sadly, my daughter's S60 transmission is on its last leg. I've gone through all recommended actions. Fluid flush, servo cover replacement, etc. And I took it to my local Volvo shop and they confirmed. I plan on replacing it myself and I'm gathering information. I like their shop and respect their business so I don't want to bug them with these questions just yet. I'd like to know a few things before I go that route.
Its a 2003 S60 2.4 non turbo, automatic transmission. It has about 120k miles and she wants to keep it. What are my replacement transmission options? Where do you guys recommend for refurbished units? Is the dealer the only source for factory refurbished? I suppose a Used Transmission is the most affordable, but from where? Ebay? Craigslist? Is there a dismantler that could ship one to me? If I can use a different model transmission, which one would be preferred? Mine is AW55, correct? I think I saw a thread ( another BBS, not here ) a few years ago where a guy put a V70 transmission in his S60. I posted on another BBS, but getting no help there. Best, Don

car-part.com is your friend if you go the used route. As for reman, I'd try transstar first.

Cool. Fred, is it Home - Transtar Industries ?
Eric, when it comes time for a new car for her, I plan on touching base with you. For now she wants this one kept on the road.

That's them, not 100% sure if they sell to the general public or not though, you may have to go through a shop, or parts store to get one. Try a local trans shop if you get no love .

Follow-up to this...
I used Car-part.com to source a used transmission. Found one for <$600 with ~25k miles in Tucson. The shop waived the core because I drove down from Mesa. Did the swap in a friends man-cave with a lift and lots of air tools. Down side?...we had football on and a beer fridge taunting us. Removal and reinstall prep was day 1. Day 2 we got it all back together. Daughter is happy with the results and the car drives great.
