R.I.P. Bobby Keys.

The fifth Stone.

Here's a vid with a great solo. Go to about 5 minutes.

Just had to listen to "Can't You Hear me Knocking" on vinyl. I thought his tone was great.

I saw him play with the Joe Ely Band about 5 years ago. He had to suck down at least 10 beers while on stage.

hardflex 12-02-2014 03:34 PM

He left a great body of work to remember him bye, he'll not be forgotten . Thanks for the memories....

Evidently he was battling cirrhosis so perhaps not surprising.

God speed - there are a lot of great sax players up stairs...

Thanks Herr Oberst.....he was an amazing performing artist and will be missed.

Good read here.....

R.I.P. Bobby!

targa911S 12-02-2014 06:00 PM

That Rolling Stones lifestyle did him in. He and Keith were soul mates. Born on the same day. May he rest in peace. It's getting to be a pretty good band on the other side.....

What a bloody shame that Keys has played his last Sax solo. Now it is all just a memory...

71scgc 12-03-2014 04:34 AM

Huge loss.

Yeah, I think he was well on his way in his wild Texas days before hooking up with the Stones. But boy was he surely a Stone!

I've always liked this song. In matter of fact, I truly enjoy the Stone's take on country.

well yeah, that too

Mr Keyes was really something. Just imagine Exile on Main Street without that sax.

I can't do it either

targa911S 12-03-2014 05:34 PM

we lost Ian McLagan today as well, another Rolling Stones keyboard player..

herr_oberst 12-03-2014 06:02 PM

^^^

I reckon he missed his "New Barbarian" brother....
R.I.P. Ian....

Chuck is homegrown talent here in Macon, GA. He is a forestry expert and a conservationalist.

but ahhh, Bobby and his sax, tough, slippery, greasy... soulful perfect for the Stones, and well Exile ... clearly his home was on Mainstreet
