New DB10 in Bond 24

Aston Martin tweeted this pic out this morning. I know large rims are popular, but I think this goes a bit too far. It's a beautiful car, but I think the wheels look disproportionate and silly.

The wheels are a bit out of place. I will say that AM makes some of the best SOUNDING cars I've ever heard.

Flieger 12-04-2014 06:46 AM

Those look alright to me since the car is so long. I've seen much worse. The new Porsches have wheels much too large.

Concept cars always have wagon wheels, let's hope they downsize by a few inches for the real thing.

BlueSkyJaunte 12-04-2014 07:19 AM

The beltline looks a bit high. It should make for some awesome blind spots.

Yep, and that looks like a CAD rendition instead of a picture.

Aren't all new cars coming with really high beltlines and huge blindspots? I think it has been driven by side impact regs. It's hard to meet side imapct regs with nothing but a hseet of glass next to the occupants. I'm not a huge fan of the high beltlines either.

I'm sure the car will be cool, but I'm more excited about the prospect of another Bond film than the car. I love me some James Bond! I like all of them. I think there's one Pierce Brosnan movie that was actually pretty bad, but I like the rest of the movies and actors that played Bond, even George Lazenby.

So would this one be two and a half times as good as the one Hugh sold to the crown prince of Bahrain, or whoever sent the briefcase full of benjamins for it?

Well, here's the one they unveiled this morning. Still looks awkward to me.

Though allow me to clarify, that's the ONLY thing I don't like about the way it looks! It's a stunning car, outside of that. I do think Aston Martin has consistently made some of the best looking cars over the last several decades.

masraum 12-04-2014 10:42 AM

To me in the pic of the actual model, It's not so much the wheel size that looks odd (I've gotten used to big wheels). I think the wheels being at the extreme ends of the car might look a bit odd. Most cars have a bit more overhang front and rear. The windows look almost cartoonishly small due to the high beltline. But, despite having some more extreme elements, it still (or maybe because of the extreme elements) looks pretty cool. I'd like to see one in person and from more angles.

Personally I could drive around Monica Bellucci in that sled all day. No problem.

herr_oberst 12-04-2014 11:29 AM

That is a big car, judging by the size of the guy wiping it off at the 007 launch.

Big and beautiful!!!

I have no problems with the tire diameter, because they fit the wheel arches perfectly, but I'm a geezer, and I think that a little bit more sidewall with a smaller diameter tire would look better.

I'm sure those large hoops help keep the size down visually.

herr_oberst 12-04-2014 11:35 AM

Wouldn't take much, but this is just my opinion...

What a refreshingly clean looking car.

Whenever I see big gloss black wheels with machine face finish I think cheap chinese "Ebay bling" wheels.

I hope it's just the photograph.

A local guy owns a AM Zagato.

Holy Cow! There's An Aston Martin V12 Zagato For Sale In The US

^ This one. It does sound awesome. Much like the F1 cars of before the current turbo hybrids of 2014.

He brought it out to our autocross and it was a gorgeous car.

Modern fuel economy rules give allowed MPG by wheelbase and track width. If you put in a thirsty engine, you HAVE to make a long wheel base and wide track. The rules are designed to give trucks leeway due to their larger size and power needs to do their jobs. It also means low MPG production luxery cars with big motors have to go to truck sized proportions.

At least we get to see it.......... unlike that goofy Bond flick Vanquish w/ adaptive camouflage.

onewhippedpuppy 12-04-2014 05:20 PM

It has some F-Type coupe in the rear 3/4. The wheels and arches are out of proportion to the short overall length, nearly the entire front and rear fender is a wheel cutout.

KNS 12-05-2014 03:33 AM

It's pleasing to the eye but I agree with most of the comments here regarding wheel size, belt line and submarine windows.

I'd actually take a current Vantage instead, better looking IMO.
