I taught my kids not to run out in the street. The drivers can do what they like, as long as they keep it between the ditches.

Chicago recently installed speed cameras around parks and schools. The speed limits are set by the Chicago Department of Traffic and not the community. I don't have a problem with the speed cameras around schools. In the city everyone slows done - a violation is considered a moving violation.

The problem I have is around parks. The city has really stretched the definition of what/where is a park. There are cameras for parks where the park is no where to be found. I recently complained to my alderman who responded and essentially agreed with me - it was a stretch. However he has no say what/where they go in his community he represents. Some of the cameras become revenue generators.

I see a backlash coming as some communities have few, school, park or red light cameras. I look at cameras with contempt.

I work on the assumption that it means go slow when kids are out and around. But just in case, I always slow way down - the limit is 25 mph here where I live.

Yeah, people are always criticising pedophiles, but at least they drive nice and slowly through school zones.
