Maybe jail time for Jayson Werth- busted 105 in a 55 driving Pooch 911

'Pressing' his luck, eh?

Washington Nationals outfielder Jayson Werth was sentenced to 10 days in jail with 170 suspended after a judge found him guilty of reckless driving.

Werth also loses his driver's license for six months.

On July 6, Werth was pulled over on the Capital Beltway in Fairfax County, Va., for driving 105 mph in a 55-mph zone, according to court records.

Werth's attorney said he plans to appeal the conviction.

"The Washington Nationals have been in communication with right fielder Jayson Werth regarding this situation for multiple weeks," a Nationals spokesman said in an e-mailed statement in August. "Jayson is cooperating with the authorities. As it is an ongoing legal matter, the team has no further comment."

According to the state trooper who pulled Werth over in his Porsche 911, when asked what Werth was doing driving 105 MPH, he responded: "Pressing my luck."

Was this the situation where the cop actually pulled his sidearm on the driver after he stopped? Can't figure out why that was necessary.

cop on adrenaline, I suspect. THey usually don't go that fast unless they're late for a Starbucks meet.

So, dude was in a 2012 Porsche 911 GT3 RS

uhm... reckless? Jail !?

Seems extreme. It's not like he was driving a Prius at those speeds. Was he slaloming traffic or something?

Virginia has super duper strict rules on speeding if your local to VA.

Has anyone here not driven 105 in a 55? Did it really seem reckless?

He was signed up for a DE here last year but never showed up as some personal emergency turned up.

Our DE crew always checks licenses at the beginning of the event. I guess he's out for a while from that too...

Depends. When I was younger, yeah, I probably sped in places that it was reckless. I can't imagine that the beltway in DC is ever very light on traffic, so going 105 may have been reckless.

I used to live in NoVA. If you're going 25mph over the speed limit, you're technically driving reckless.

When I was 16 (10 years ago) I got a 131 in a 55. Received a 6 point
Ticket and lost my license for 1 month, 800 in fines, nothing more. Jail seems harsh.

The law in Va is 20 over the posted speed limit or 80mph.
Yeah there are some very tough laws regarding speeding.
90 is a day in jail and a day is added for every mile over.
Same rules apply no matter what the situation is, country road or city street, it's a wonder anybody in Va has a license.
I have a few friends on the state police dept and they have all told me that if you are in the triples just run, it isn't going to be much more time added to the visit to the stripie hole. That was info given to me off the record.

55mph? nah, sorry...I can't drive 55

but if the cop did draw done on him I wouldn't blame him...if the car was stolen or driven by a druggy or a marginal outfielder but this guy hits in the 290's! Plus he is white! Where is the justice there?

105 in a GT3 RS is 5mph over yawn . . .

This is what I hate about evermore draconian laws; no accounting for circumstance. (well, unless it's a cop Crown Vic making chase, of course.)

Politicizing a speeding ticket?

Dude, you need to dial back the anger and maybe turn the intelligence up a couple notches. Either that or just stay in PARF where that would be a perfectly normal, rational post.

I'm not angry, just concerned about you and your blood-pressure. It can't be good to stay that pissed-off for 10 hours a day or however much time you spend there.

Maybe have your butt pal the phony shrink have a look at you.

Dude, butt pal? You come to OT after I corrected you in PARF, and so you find some passing comment of mine as a pretext to spin sheet up.

sensitive much? Sheesh.
