Algebra help

I apparently killed my algebra problem solving skills studying fermentation science. Why can't my addled brain solve this equation for V2?

(((V1 x A1)+(V2 x A2))/(V1 + V2)) = A3

Pemdas.

V1*a1 + v2*a2 = a3*(v1 + v2)
V1*a1 + v2*a2 = a3*v1 + a3*v2
V1*a1 - a3*v1 = a3*v2 - v2*a2
V2 = (V1*a1 - a3*v1)/(a3 - a2)

But I'm on my second beer

You can't solve the equation for V2. V2 has to want to solve the equation for himself...

thx

oh those were the engineering days.

Ouch ! I signed up for "elementary" matrix algebra for a summer course. It was "elementary" how hard could it be? SO much tedious work, and if you made one little mistake - BOOM!

That did it - thanks! Here's the result

email me your address and I'll send a holiday treat.

V2 = (v1(a3-a1))/(a2-a3)

((V1 * A1)+(V2 * A2))/(V1 + V2) = A3

multiply both side by (v1+v2) and divide both sides by A3

(V1*A1+V2*A2)/A3=V1+V2

multiply out

V1+V2=V1*A1/A3+V2*A2/A3

subtract V2*A2/A3 and v1 from both sides.

V2-V2*A2/A3=V1*A1/A3-V1

consolidate V2

V2(1-A2/A3)=V1(A1/A3-1)

Divide both side by (1-A2/A3)

V2=V1(A1/A3-1)/(1-A2/A3)

___________________________

or

((V1 * A1)+(V2 * A2))/(V1 + V2) = A3

V1*A1+V2*A2=V1*a3+V2*a3

v2*a2-v2*a3=v1*a3-v1*a1

v2(a2-a3)=v1(a3-a1)

v2=v1(a3-a1)/(a2-a3)

After getting a new job in the same company as a prototype tech, I was required to get a 2 year degree in something applicable. I chose engineering and had to take 3 different progressive math classes to get me up to speed after 34 year since my last math class. I just finished with Trig, and geometry last week and somehow got "A"s.
