What Sucks about the VA

Had gall bladded taken out yesterdat. Left hospital 4-pm, VA pharmacy closes at 4pm no pain meds...

Pretty sure it falls below the standard of care in this country not to take care of that sort of thing. They expect you to use a bottle of whiskey and a rawhide strap between your teeth or something for pain control?

wow what a pain! where are you located, maybe someone here can drop by to help?
I'd have thought the Drs there would have helped you avoid this problem. but it is the VA.
Cheers Richard

Thanks guys, had a family member come through for me on some pain meds. You know, the VA gave me a voucher to have the gall bladder removed but no voucher for pain meds or any other medications that I may have been prescribed. That needs to change as I am sure that I am not the only one to have gone through this.

As far as the gall bladder goes, I have been experiencing extreme stomach pains since 1992. I have been to the emergency room over a dozen times due to this condition. Not one time did they ever offer to do a test for gall stones. On my latest trip to the Dr., I finally said that something had to be done as I could no longer "Man Up" to deal with the pain. They finally did a ultra sound and found out that I had gall stones. The Dr. took pictures of the gall bladder when it was removed. It looked like a piece of meat that I had cooked on the grill. Was turning black on the outside. I had two stones, on about 3cm and one about 2cm. The large one was so big that you could see that it had reshaped the gall bladder before it was even cut open. I could of went through a few years pain free if just one of those ER Dr.'s would have done an ultrasound for me. I think that the gall bladder had become diseased and had been poisoning my system.

I am in the VA health care system...you must be a strong advocate for your needs. The pharmacy at the facility is available 24 /7 , after ER visits and procedures...I am not sure of what happened to you
