gas weedeater RC boats

I have rekindle this enchantment recently from my youth. My boys and I are going to build a few boats this year to run at our lake property this coming summer. anyone well versed in these? I am already looking at what parts I could make and sell to support the hobby

I don't know anything about them but can't wait to learn. Should be a great thread.

start researching some guys have 80" long boats with twin weedeater engines in them and can cost from 1k -20k depending on what they do to them. WOW

I actually tracked mine down from when I was 12 26 years later and repurchased it though all that was left was the hull

well I thought this may get some traction but I guess not. I can tell you this the etiquette in the for sale forums for items sucks. you latterly have to wait in front of the computer for items to get posted then say you will take it with asking any questions and go for it. there is no dibs etc .. Not like the Porsche community for sure.

here is my boat that I painted this week. just in white and I will detail with some read and black accents this week.

There are a couple guys that bring their boats to the lake down the street from my house, It has a 2.8 mile walking trail around it and you can hear them anywhere on the trail. Let me tell ya they flat out haul the mail. I grew up racing 1/10 scale Indoor RC pan cars and was pretty successful regionally but I had never seen anything RC go that fast.

Why fuch around with inefficient power/weight weedeater gas motors, drive shaft nightmares, huge hulls, when you can have 30 mph fast and electric for $115?

guess sometimes it's the journey, not the destination, but I don't want to put 100's of hours into a home-made boat just to find out the motor doesn't rev like it should and fighting prop cavitation / pitch / diameters.

these new electric boats, are also self righting if you flip them hull up. they kick butt and are scary fast.

Been there with a 48" dumas deep vee hull and .60 2 strokes nitro fuel. .

Lipo Batteries and a Brushless 30 mph boat to run, not wrench on, is a lot more fun.

I have the FT009 which is good for about 18-20 mph. The FT012 brushless will do an honest 30 mph. $115, turn key. charge battery and go.

FT012 Upgraded FT009 2.4G 4CH Brushless RC Racing Boat Sale-Banggood.com

IMHO

YMMV

Also another Turn Key Boat , the Traxxas Spartan, out of the box, 6S electric cells, more into the $500-600 price range though.

but you want 66 mph?, easy.

electrics are where it's at, Brushless and water cooled engines and ESC speed controller.

A friend of mine has a nice Gas Enforcer - it looks a lot like your hull. We will go to the lake water-ski all day and then when things slow down and the lake is glass we will pull out his boat. What a kick in the a$$. Every time we pull that thing out every boat going by will just stop in their tracks to sit and watch this thing. It sure is great to see kids face light up watching his boat. My buddy gets this grin on his face from ear to ear driving that boat. Just like a little kid.

Nothing against electrics, but like our cars there is something old-school and LOAD about these gas weedeater boats.

I picked this up last summer - it will be my first gas RC boat. Its my long, slow ongoing project (among many) that I haven't finished.

The guy I bought it from - took it out the first time and ran it right into a new Mastercraft boat at a local lake around here. The guys in the boat were so pissed they started stomping on the RC boat basically breaking it in half.

You may not be able to tell but it is about 4 feet long so no, its no small boat.
I bought it for $100 for the parts (I had another hull at the time) but liked the old "Miss Budwiser" drag hull and have decided to try my hand at fixing the hull. I have since got it together and am almost ready to paint. I have added so much fiberglass I am not even sure it'll float at this point.

I guess with winter settling in I might actually finish this thing.

Wow awesome deal. . I paid more to buy my hull back but it was sentimental to me. Engines are 100 bucks alone. . My boat is 46"long s yes the boats are big

'Cause gas exhaust smells so much better than ozone.

That's actually a newer version of my boat .. though my boat will be water cooled and run a Zenoah that turns about 16,000 rpms your price is good on that I would be interested if it were not so far away.

on a side note average speed for a weedeater boat runs about 45-60mph and some faster one just set a record at 120mph. The other plus is they run for about 40 minutes on a tank of gas and most run latern fuel (white gas) as it runs cooler and does not go bad easily..

Given your line of work - I am sure you know but... a tuned exhaust is the key to these things.

Tuning a Tuned Pipe

Outstanding craftsmanship , without a doubt..........but why all that work and money for something you can't get on/into and ride ????? Nothin like the wind in your face & the wonderful smell & sound of internal combustion. Electric anything, motive, is for kids.
