It isn't very feasible to work from home in NJ while the company is in GA - especially if I would be paid on a Georgia pay scale - it would simply become very difficult to resolve the lower pay grade of GA and the higher cost of living of NJ...

That said, I work from home one day a week now - so technically, it could work, but financially, not a good idea. Plus we have a collaborative culture in my company - ie: lots of meetings and face to face exchanges. Working from home one day a week would be ok -- but anything more than that can become an issue...

Let me know if you are down here Z-man. I still owe you a beverage of your choice...

So how does that work?

Do NJ employees who move to Atlanta have to take a 10% (made # up) pay cut because the cost of living is lower there? Or does everyone get a nice raise after taxes due to the lower cost of living?

I wonder what is happening to the Toyota folks who are moving from SoCal to Plano, TX where the cost of living is also quite a bit lower.

....

Just 'cause your moving to GA doesn't necessarily mean some southern corps don't pay VERY well too ya know :D. I decided VERY early in my corporate career that I would live where I wanted too (right here in NC)....different strokes. If NJ is truly where your heart is...I understand that too... then start looking ;). Best of luck to you Z!

I hope that's not the case (pay reduction). Housing is cheaper, but that's about it. Everything else is very similar down here in Mayberry...

Sorry about your situation Z, at least you have a few years of employment to plan your next move. Are there other local opportunities in your industry?
