New York pizza
In all my many trips to New York I have never gone on a quest for pizza. It's always been an obligatory stop at Carnegie Deli and then upscale restaurants.
This time I'll be there with my grandkids and they are going to want pizza. I don't necessarily have to have the "best" but what is a good place for pizza in mid-town?

Check out Eataly if you got time to sample a whole bunch of Italian food.

Can't go wrong with Famous Ray's and they're everywhere in midtown.

There's a famous pizza spot right off of Washington Square. I'll try to remember the name...

Find a neighborhood place.
Great pizza is not necessarily determined by how nice the establishment looks, some of the best stuff comes from hole in the wall places with a by the slice counter. When you eat it you need to fold it. ![]() This helps you to look "native" and makes it easier to drain off excess oil. If when biting into the pizza the cheese and sauce start to slide off in one massive piece the pizza is not fresh.

Don't know the city all that well, but when we were there this past summer, we went to Lombardi's

Lazzaras Pizza | the best thin crust pizza in the Garment District! On W38st
IMHO the best pizza places are in Brooklyn. Stomachmonkey is 100% right. The best places are the smaller dumps. Stay away from the tourist trap places. .

Yeah, I'll ask for a Chicago style crust with cheddar cheese and Fritos. I probably wouldn't need and airplane to get back to Ohio.

Been working in NYC for almost 2 years. I try different places often and have yet to find "bad" pizza. Rosie's in Penn Station is good, Grimaldis as well. I'm so spoiled to nyc pizza now, I can't even eat the nasty stuff in Louisiana we call "pizza" anymore.
Ditto for bagels....

I would also recommend Gourmet Italian Food, Gift Baskets, Pastas, Sauces | Eataly as well. They have a nice pizza sit down section in the back but is always packed.
I used to work in Midtown and one of my favorites if you just want a low frills spot but with excellent pizza is Pizza Suprema behind MSG on 8th. large whole pies or slices: New York Pizza Suprema good luck!

Only thing worse than Sbarro's is supermarket frozen pizza.
