Just got a 57 Willy project
Not really into the Jeep scene before and it's in pretty decent shape already but I have no clue where to get parts?? Like floor pans, patch panels, mirrors, suspension parts, etc. etc. Anyone got some places where I can get these??

Cool!! There's a Chasing Classic Cars episode where he buys one in a box, all original, ready to assemble, from military surplus. Pretty neat.

Just google "willys parts" there are any number of places that sell great repro parts.

I did a little swap with a friend recently and now have a 70's jeep cj5 sitting behind my shop I don't need or want. my plans changed and I'm not going to do anything with it. it's a complete jeep from end to end but has been stripped down to the last nut and bolt by previous owner for some reason or other. 6cyl, manual trans/transfer case, frame, etc. 2 sets of front and rear dana dif., 2 sets of rollbars, 10" rims with tires, etc. not sure how compatible a 70's jeep is with a 50's jeep but they hadn't changed that much in that time span. if there's something you could use and willing to make the trip.. I'll make you a killer deal.. all or parts. make me an reasonable offer, but I'd much rather swap you for something/anything.. your only expense is the one day round trip to come get it out of my way. you'll need a trailer

Look up MD Juan | The ultimate source of jeep body & parts worldwide for body parts. You can check out The CJ2A Page Forums for forums, and this site, The CJ3B Page, is a good source of info.

Willy's Jeeps are so cool ! Nothing like a flat fender Jeep with a modern engine ! I had several Jeep CJ's but a flat fender is something special. Let me know if you need anything !

Pics?
My uncle used to have a Willys. Cool trucks. |
I had a '46 CJ2 a while back. It had a top speed of around 45 mph I think, it was geared so low.

Anyone remember those ads in comic books selling a jeep in a box? Supposedly gooped with cosmoline and perfectly preserved.
|
Well... what's it look like?

Willy's are SO cool!

Saw ads in my cousin's old comic books for the jeep and the motorcycle in a box. My other uncle had an old army surplus jeep. His wife made him sell the motorcycle after he put it together. Never got another bike until he got a CB 550 25 years later. I wish I had that bike, even with gold paint it was cool. First time I ever saw an inline 4 motorcycle.
How cool would it be to find one of those things still in the crate? I bet you clean it up and it would be in decent, maybe even great shape. There is a legend about a bunch of old Army guns being buried in Texas somewhere. What do you do if you find 20 crates of BARs buried 147 miles from El Paso, slathered in that grease? I buy a parts washer tank and tell my buddy to put the camper shell on his truck. |
Ran the VIN, its actually a '58. This is the only picture that shows a big part of the body. I took several, but they are all close ups of some rust on some panels, etc.
Have no idea which way to go with this yet as in stock restoration, or modernize it but keep it looking mostly stock. I have all the stock parts in boxes. http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1419828599.jpg |

FTW! |
Take a good look at it. If it's an ag Jeep (PTO or belt pulley on the back, mower brackets, etc under the body) it's worth something as a restored original. Otherwise, let yourself go. Will you be driving it off road or as a car? That will have a lot to do with what you do with it.
|
A four cylinder diesel in that would make it an off road monster. It probably has axle ratios near 5.13 - 1 then add the low range transfer case you could climb a tree if you had the traction !

Cj-3b?

It is in JAX, I will go back and get it in a few weeks. (full disclaimer... it is/was my girlfriend's dad's Jeep. It has been sitting for @ 12 years. She is just as excited as me to get it running again!) |
