iPad question

for some reason, when connected to the TV with the HDMI cable, my iPad has decided not to mirror the screen. After starting some videos , they play on the tv (eg. you tube) no problem, but others I just get sound (same with face time). I have tried another HDMI cable, same thing. Is it likely the Lightning to HDMI adaptor has a problem?
Griff.

Same app for stuff that works and stuff that doesn't (you tube, etc...) or different apps (youtube vs Amazon)?

Some apps won't mirror to screen at all by design of IOS. That's why I jailbroke my old ipad ver1.

If it's the same app, that's weird. It should work. Have you tried rebooting? You have to hold down one of the buttons for several seconds before the thing actually powers off. Occasionally, after several months of use, I'll have to power cycle mine to stop odd behavior.

This happened to me once - the full dialog box was hidden so you can't see the full section of choices. Sorry not to be more clear.

BTW - for $100, I'd get the Apple TV just for Airplay - so easy.

This. Only limitation with Apple TV and streaming is that pictures are in old format, not widescreen. I guess they needed that since Apple TV can work on non-widescreen format TV's.

I have used Apple TV to stream all sorts of video with no issues- Youtube videos, movies downloaded with iTunes, and Facetime -- all without a problem.

With Airplay, some apps you can simply beam over to the TV (and not have on your iPad), and some apps you can mirror, and some offer both.

1 My Apple TV is in widescreen
2 Yes, pretty much everything works perfectly whether it's playing directly from the ATV or mirroring from the iPad.

Some apps like cbs nbc intentionally do not allow hdmi out to work. Copyright reasons.

Yep. I've even found one, one of the major stations, that doesn't allow airplay. But I've found a bug of sorts.

Let's say that I've got ABC and CBS, and one has the airplay option and the other doesn't. If I watch something on the one, and then go immediately to the other and pull something up on that one, it will 99% of the time, just automatically throw that one up on airplay too.

I think you need to set the format on your TV when using Apple TV to fix that.

The odd thing is that it was working fine. Left it on the main iPad screen (icons) went away to answer a phone call and when I came back the TV screen was black.
Never had a problem with any of the apps or iPad screen mirroring on the tv before.
As I said previously, when I start most of the videos on the iPad they will then mirror when they start, some just play sound.
I do have an AirPlay somewhere in a box from when I moved. I will dig it out!
