Because we've got the fruity beer thread and it's winter time, so high time for stouts. I don't really have anything new to say or show. I've been mostly getting Guinness Extra Stout for when we want something light. The local Whole Foods has had the KBS for a while, so we've also been getting that. And the local Specs also has had a bunch of the 2017 Eclipse stuff. I keep thinking that they'll run out, but they've got more every time I go in so I keep buying it.
I haven't seen BrewDog Cocoa Psycho in years which is a sad thing. I also haven't seen much Ten Fiddy this year. Come to think of it, I also haven't seen any of the Rogue Stouts. I've had a little Irish Channel stout and some others here and there, mostly last winter/spring. |
I have two milk stouts in the fridge now. One by Left Hand and one by Great Lakes. I've always liked the Left Hand milk stout. Tried the Great Lakes and was really disappointed.

So many great stouts out there...I mostly drink local brews these days, but I highly recommend this one which should be available most places:

Only thing we get around here from S.N is their IPA. I'll have to go outside my normal radius and look for that one!
According to their beer locator I'm gonna have to go WAY outside my normal radius. Village Bottle Shop in Lafayette IN is the only place that has it. 2 hours and 45 minutes one way. This stuff better be good! |
Not a stout but a slightly weaker version of one, Porter! My go to cheap beer this time of year is Leinenkugel Snowdrift Vanilla Porter. I haven't made my vanilla bourbon porter for a few years. I think maybe I'm gonna pull that one out of retirement.

I’m definitely a porter fan as well. That Leinies isn’t half bad either! Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk |

I recently received a 4-pack of Velvet Moon Mocha Stout and was quite pleasantly surprised.
This brew comes from Mighty Squirrel Brewing Co. and it is sold in proper pints. Brewery and Taproom, 411 Waverly Oaks Road, Waltham, MA The coffee part comes from a blend of Honduran, Nicaraguan, and Ethiopian beans from Atomic Coffee Roasters. from a review: "Pours black with a generous, fluffy tan head - looks appetizing. Nose is roasted malt with a hint of coffee. Taste pretty much follows suit - big roasted malt flavors cocooned by coffee notes. Slight bitterness from the coffee merges with the bitterness of the hops. A touch of chocolate and vanilla linger in the background. Mouthfeel is on the lighter side of creamy, Overall a pretty tasty and enjoyable stout." IMHO, the flavor changes notably when it reaches room temperature and is best served quite chilled. http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1609440613.jpg |
With all the micro brews popping up, it's a great time to be a beer drinker! I did a coffee stout 3 or 4 years ago. Did a cold brew coffee and added when racking from fermenter to keg. Good stuff!

We are having a few of these tonight though can't decide between the Mean Old Tom and 2014 Chateauneuf du Pape to go with the NY strips and lobsters. The Tom might be good for dessert. Blanton's old fashioned to kick things off.

From one of the local Jersey breweries here
This stuff is nectar of the gods. http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1609465779.jpg http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1609465881.jpg |
One of my "local" favorites is Oakshire Brewing's Espresso Stout.
|
KBS is great, so is the goose island aged stuff.
Fremont b-bomb options are solid (coconut b-bomb is my favorite). |
I grabbed a 6 of Dogfish Campfire Amplifier. Good stuff.

I just got a sixtel of this at home - very nice! Not sure how widespread their distribution is yet, but should be able to find it in the northeast. So much for dry January... |

^^^ You'll like it.
It's potent...12% ABV :) |
I'm having a warm and flat Mean Old Tom now, it is perfect. Wish I could find Old Peculiar and Watney's Cream Stout again. Really miss them.
