oy! self imposed exile, got stuff done

So I just finished my 2 week vacation where the college was closed for the holiday. Put my phone on airplane mode, disconnected the network cable on my computer, and got stuff done around the house.

Cleaned my garage - 4 dooley pickup loads to the dump, plus another of still good usable stuff (baby crib, etc)

Cleaned the utility closet I've not opened since we bought the house 15 years ago. Found some power tools, a few with original factory grease on 'em. So now I have a skill saw, a saber saw, electric brad nailer, etc.

Cleared out our bedroom and walk in closets. Got rid of a ton of clothes that I've not worn in years.

So I now have a small "office" in the utility room so I can clean guns, etc. wihtout the kids getting involved. Can now access all of my car magazines from the early 50s on. Can even get the canoe and motor from mom's house and store hte 356 in her garage.

It really is amazing how much crap can be acumulated in 1900 square feet over a period of 15 years.

Also amazing how much my self imposed network exile helped me get a ton of stuff done. So, a very belated Happy New Year to all.

I have to do that now and then, take a day or two off to get stuff done on my farm.....usually involves splitting wood, or cleaning horse stalls.

It's wisdom like this OP that keeps us coming back here.

Congrats! Getting out of the habit of being plugged in 24/7 is tough. The "new" power tools are a hell of a bonus.

In November we took a brief vacation to Sedona. We actually stayed in a cabin somewhat north in Oak Creek. No cell service, no wifi, no TV, and thankfully no radio (my wife normally listens to a crappy little "transistor"-style radio all day--the sound drives me nuts).

It was bliss! Hiking, reading, board games, and cooking. Our daughter (5 years old) keeps asking when we're going back...

This is why we like going camping....all of the above except we have a 15 year old and a 21 year old that still want to go with us.

They are "left over" from my Dad. I'm pretty sure there is some $ value, but I don't know how much. As an example, the first ever review of the Corvette - found 2 copies on ebay, one with bids up to $90 and the other with 0 bids at $5 start... what is it worth?

Gonna go thru and group by publication and year, and put on ebay... or perhaps have a massive Secret Santa thing for PPOT this year

I have lots of camping trips planned in my head but no family members who want to join me on them. I think it has to do with the lack of hot/cold running water. We compromise by renting cabins in out-of-the-way places.

We don't rough it too bad in a 30' Dutchmen camper with a full kitchen, furnace, queen size bed, hot water heater and full bath. We do most of our cooking over the open campfire, and are generally only in the trailer at night or when raining.
