An Amazing Year in Science...

http://finance.yahoo.com/news/48-most-important-scientific-discoveries-150300838.html

Some really cool things were discovered this year. What is your favorite? (I like the use of light to turn negative memories to positive ones...)

It behooves me + my innate curiosity to explore a few of these - Thanks "Doc"

I like all the quantum physics stuff. I'm looking forward to later this year, after the LHC is powered up with more energy. Super symmetry, dark matter, extra dimensions... Wild stuff.

Quite a bit of exaggeration and wishful thinking went into that, worthy of something you'd find in the magazine "popular science"*

Quote:

World's largest solar thermal plant starts generating energy by using more than 300,000 mirrors to reflect sunlight in California
AND USING THE SAME OBSOLETE TECHNOLOGY THAT WAS DEEMED TOO INEFFICIENT TO WASTE TIME AND MONEY ON BACK IN 1982!

WOO HOO!

* popular science (fiction) magazine is an inside joke at my house.
My son gets a new subscription every year for Christmas from a well-intentioned relative.
Every month we read it and laugh at the absurdness and inaccuracy of the articles.

They specialize in using the words "could" and "might" and "someday" to qualify statements they've already presented as fact. Much like that article.

The Pillars of Creation

BBC NEWS | Science/Nature | Doom for Hubble's iconic pillars

Nothing lasts forever - except maybe mankind's proclivity for stupidity.
