Wax (BHO) In Your Local Bar?

Was talking to the owner of my favorite bar/pub. He is planning to add a pot dispensary when that becomes legal in Oregon, which will be sometime after July of this year.

He doesn't want it to be too "in your face", so is thinking about "wax" instead of joints, pipes, or bongs. Apparently wax, also called BHO, is an odorless, almost smokeless substance, a hash oil derivative. It is consumed using a vaporizer rather than combustion.

Are you seeing this in your state? I guess only WA or CO residents would be. What do you think - would it hurt or help a bar?

both groups tend to avoid each other..
their often far apart in other areas as well..
I think it would hurt his biz..

Dunno the legalities in Oregon but here in Cali it is illegal to smoke at the dispensaries (much like it is illegal to drink alcohol on the premises of a liquor store).

I was a pot head for 10 year, been off it for 15 years... the irony that it is now becoming legal is not lost on me.

Middle age conservative republicans didn't listen to rock n roll either.... the times they are a changing

A friend of a friend who used to smoke pot once told me...

.. That smoking pot after drinking a bunch of alcohol basically made them zone out.
I think it will hurt Alcohol sales and then he would have a bunch of stoners hanging out in his bar not drinking. Go for it if he is making more money selling WAX than alcohol. I have never heard of WAX?

My friend must be getting old.

I think your friend will probably have to keep up on the proximity laws re: dispensary next to a bar. They're probably being written right now I'd imagine. If he thinks he's going to put it in the same building or sell it behind the bar he's smoking something. :)

You ever been to Portland? It is like Austin on mushrooms

What I have been told, is that alcohol helps the body absorb the THC. So drinking then smoking just punches you in the face and spaces you out. However, smoking then drinking doesnt have the same effect. Unless you smoke again after a few drinks.

So..
Any place that sold both, if the patrons used *properly*, would be full of zombies just staring at each other drooling over the taco bell commercials.

Back in the day I seem to remember drinking and smoking with no ill effects... well, except for total loss of initiative and eating everything in the house.

Of course back then I could also carry a 50lb tool box up a extension ladder one handed.

However I hear the weed of today is a whole different animal than the "Columbian gold" we had back then.

Honestly I think the legalities are going to be more of a hurdle...

Heck, come to think of it I have younger friends that smoke weed, drink, and watch football/sports every Sunday and seem to get by with no problems.

Just so you guys have a sense of what he's talking about, this isn't a pub where a bunch of old salts are wasting an afternoon nursing a Hamms.

J's favorite hanagout is a retail bike shop (repairs and sales) that's also a hub for various activities - club events, live music dance parties, early morning live Tour De'France viewings; bike culture events, etc etc. It's a very cool vibe. They have a long bar that serves up microbrews, and the people that frequent the establishment are very active and participate in life.

This is not loserville. It's fun-town.

I think it's a great idea and I hope they can get the permit.

If they start selling pot then I would have to disagree.

Any one smoking the dab is not going to be moving about much afterwards. It is quite concentrated and as the Brillcream ad would say, "a little dab will do ya" I guess the owner would know if his current customers are accepting of getting high.
A bike shop/weed emporium with a bar. Carving out a niche in the marketplace.

I'm opening a pot dispensary/jack in the box.

Pre-ordering my 991 now.

Peyton Manning opens most of his PaPa Johns pizza franchises near pot dispensaries.
Not a bad business model.

I looked at the law, and the OLCC webpage, seems like they won't start taking business applications until July 2016. So this might be a while off.

I read - skimmed - the text of Oregon measure 91. There isn't any language prohibiting a bar from selling marijuana. There is a prohibition against consuming marijuana in a public place, which is defined as where the general public has access including common areas of buildings, parks, streets, etc. I don't think that includes bars.

scottmandue 01-09-2015 03:43 PM

Do they allow smoking tobacco in bars in Oregon? If not it would seem they wouldn't allow any smoking if you catch my drift.

creaturecat 01-09-2015 05:42 PM

In Vancouver, pot is illegal, just like the rest of Canada. Smoking cigarettes in or near a bar or restaurant is illegal.
However ....... There are cafes you may enter, and smoke weed. They do not sell the pot in there, I guess you buy the stuff from the seedy looking individuals hanging out front.
I could never figure that out. Big pot-lounge type signs, cops aware. Nobody seems to care.
