What is your go-to free online news source?

i just know about Google News so I am wondering what else is out there. Yahoo News is a joke as it is mainly gossip. Where do you go to stay informed?

island911 01-14-2015 01:05 PM

Drudge

nice clean interface.

cairns 01-14-2015 01:14 PM

I also use Drudge. You can ignore all the hyperbole (or not some of it is good) and get a direct link to almost every news source on the planet. From the Bangkok Post to the Sydney Morning Herald to France 24, Reuters, AP, WSJ, NYT, far left far right and moderate sources of news and opinion. Even some weird ones like North Korean News.

I also use google news but they're pretty bad IMO.....very US gossipy focus how much Miley Cyrus/Kobe Bryant/Kim Kardashian can one take......

Shifter 01-14-2015 01:23 PM

Fark

Maybe not all the news, but some pretty good content.

I like the aggregators. Flipboard, Zite etc.

You can custom content, sources, interests.

cashflyer 01-14-2015 01:56 PM

Everything I need to know is on PARF.

Pelican Parts OT. Frequently more up to date and better expert opinions. Mainstream news sources are crap.

imcarthur 01-14-2015 02:26 PM

BBC News World. It has no peer for world news.

BBC is my first stop. NPR and Christian Science Monitor are good sources too.

silverc4s 01-14-2015 02:42 PM

I get a morning digest from Quartz (QZ.com) and one from CNBC's Squawk Box, then I record all 3 hrs of Squawk M-F and watch what I can. All the news I need., no BS.

Shaun @ Tru6 01-14-2015 02:59 PM

BBC and NPR.

sc_rufctr 01-14-2015 03:22 PM

BBC and CNN.

Am I being naive?

LOL! Yes! That's a great news source. And they quiz people on their knowledge!

Cajundaddy 01-14-2015 04:43 PM

BBC is about the only real news site left. Everything else has turned to tabloid or fluff. Even CNN seems to be stinking up the screen lately.

Nostril Cheese 01-14-2015 05:38 PM

Interestingly, during incidents such as the Boston Bombings, or the Paris attacks, the info on Pelican was significantly ahead on MSM in Australia. In those situations, Pelican Off Topic takes the role of an aggregator news service.

JavaBrewer 01-14-2015 05:49 PM

BBC, CNN, San Diego UT for local news, and Huff Post for laughs. Agree that Pelican OT can be pretty informative as well.

I don't follow world news for the same reason I don't visit PARF, There is very little uplifting news or attitudes in either. I don't need to be up to date on the latest developments of a French shootout, or another Asian jetliner going down. Honestly, I had no idea either had happened until I saw a post on this forum about each. I'm just not a newshound.

BBC and NPR. Recently gave up on CNN as I hate scrolling news and their new format. not to mention it is starting to look like People magazine.

This. And I take whatever headline Drudge states with a grain of salt (i.e. read the actual article).

Google News on occasion. I mostly prefer science news.

I agree, and CNN's not so subtle editorializing is sounding more like Fox all the time. I was watching last night and they announced, "Shocking developments from ......"
Just tell me what happened. I'll decide whether it is shocking or not.

I'll bet Ted Turner is not happy with what became of his creation.

If you are the father of a teenage son you should watch this special report from the Onion. If you love him, let him know that there are special extra-large condoms so even he can practice safe sex.

They just changed their mobile version and it sucks now. Very slow to load and seems unstable on my iPhone 4S.

I read Fox News, USA Today, BBC (and CNN until a few days ago).
