Schitt's Creek
Schitt's Creek debuted on CBC Television this week. Two episodes were shown and CBC has already renewed it for a second season. My wife & I both enjoyed it. There is finally a funny sitcom on TV. It reminded me of some of the writing that made Second City Television so remarkable. There are also a lot of the same players including Eugene Levy and Catherine O'Hara.
Eugene Levy, who produces the show, was prepared for some resistance from CBC regarding the name of the show. He and his son went through Canadian phone books to see if the name Schitt actually existed. It did. And they gave pages from directories featuring the name to the public broadcaster to prove their point. “We argued that if CBC was doing a news broadcast with the name Schitt, would you not use it?” Levy said in an interview. “They said, ‘Yes, we would air the name.’ So we called the show Schitt’s Creek.” The show will debut in the US on February 11th. It will be shown on Pop TV which is the new name for the TV Guide Network. |

I had hoped for something better. The pilot was a bit obnoxious. Too much yelling and screaming about nothing.
Chris Elliot? Had enough of him. He should have stayed under Letterman's stairs, IMHO. BTW I worked on set, during the filming of Best In Show, with the same collection of SCTV types. Christopher Guest had the crew rolling on the ground, in laughter. They did not even have a real script to follow. fwiw: I don't like the title, Schitt Creek. I believe they could have done better. S Creek makes Trailer Park Boys look like a comedic work of art. |
