Graffiti! Dangerous stuff
 

I hate graffiti, but this one really stunned me. The danger level is insane. This is the bay bridge approach. I bet the graffiti bandit risked an 80 foot drop! Those are steel girders in the dark recesses of the photo. He had to have dropped onto the conc bentcap and finger clawed to the middle and swung off a rope to do this. Any ideas? To cover this up will cost thousands and require a safety meeting! Haha.

You can't just hit it with some paint sprayer attached to a hose or something?

I'm always fascinated by the lengths people will go through to get their tags and names out there. How they do it without getting seen or caught...(maybe they do?)

Heck, hire them to clean it up. They don't need OSHA or safety!

And then step on their fingers.

Maybe they didn't finish. Did you happen to look down?

The UBC undergrads hung a VW beetle (body shell) under the Lions Gate Bridge a few years back. They also managed to hang one from the Golden Gate back in Feb. 5, 2001. Boys will be boys - I guess.

I hate the vandals that graffiti.
I wish we had a police division whose sole job is to catch these a**holes.
And of course followed with stiff penalties. And I am talking hard labor nothing short of working farms and ranches. Maybe even chain gangs not unlike "Cool Hand Luke".

I truly hate graffiti...

I've always thought that a good way to deter graffiti was to fight fire with fire. It would take a dedicated crew to go around and add a little something to each tag...like 'Loser', 'Idiot' or 'Dickhead', with an arrow pointing to the tag. And for places with multiple tags, something like 'All Village Idiots Sign In Here' would work. These little 'enhancements' could be left up for a couple of weeks before the regular clean-up crews remove the whole mess.

I used to crack up driving south on 95 somewhere in the DC area, where a tag read "Fat chicks need it too"

Cliff, That looks like the same signature from a punk in our neck of the woods too. San Jose Hwy 280 has quite a few of similar renderings. Grrrr! Shoot them now please!

It's about the "Dare". These young people want their art out there and if they can get it somewhere interesting it draws more attention.
I'd imagine a harness, rope and an assistant at 4AM to do the one Vash posted. No big deal when you're 18ish.

Maybe if we as a society put more thought into our urban landscape and commissioned more art as part of it initially instead of throwing up strictly dollar-driven, "engineered" solutions to everything (largely monolithic, soul-crushing and dull) we wouldn't see this need for "artistic expression" so much. Sure, a lot of it is just young punks trying to get "street cred" by putting their tag in as many difficult places as they can, but I think part of it (and certainly the more artistic ones) is a reaction to the fact that we design and build an awful lot of drab, oppressive, awful junk out there, which is typically the target of these people - particularly the more artistic ones.

As much as I dislike (most) graffiti, there is a certain respect among artists (both "normal" ones and "graffiti" artists) where one will not defile another's work (the ones that do are scorned and are deemed to be nothing more than the vandals they are).

Tagging is awful. I put up a fence at our rental house, and it didn't take long before some jack ass tagged it.

That said, there are some talented artist who started off doing graffiti, but have made the transition to be muralist because of their talent.

Wouldn't there have been a paint brush stroke going straight down and fading away as he fell ?

I'd take graffiti over billboards any day.

Some kids in my neighborhood were showing their artistic skills recently. Wish I had gotten a picture (prickture) of the 6 foot tall penis and balls shooting multi-colored discharge into a fountain of color.

Can anyone explain the prevalence of dick/ball theme in graffiti?
