does anyone know how one could go about trying to actually drive in this event? is it by invitation only? i guess there is no DE attached to it. Will there be a PCA club race associated with it? I am bringing my 88 911 race car out to west coast for summer Fall 2015 in order to drive all of the tracks. would be nice to do LS at this time. However, I would suspect its a tough slot to get.
Please lemme know if the pelican braintrust knows anything... also feel free to pummel and abuse me if this is a friggin stupid ass question. thanks frank |

Hello Frank:
RR IV at Laguna included 8 racing groups. One of them was a PCA Club Race group that was limited to 50 entrants. This was the first and only time PCA had an official Club Race at an RR event. The other groups were managed by Porsche, likely with help from others like Bruce Canepa. The registration process for the RR IV event was just like other PCA Club races, using all of their systems and personnel. At the designated "green light hour," folks were able to register on-line. Within 5 minutes, all 50 slots were taken and there was a waiting list of another 50 or more folks. I was one of the lucky ones in the first 50. PCA managed a waiting list using what I assume was their normal process, and quite a few folks got slots in the months between registration opening and the event. No DE was held in conjunction with RR IV, but there was an organized opportunity for a lunch hour slow speed drive of the circuit. PCA did a great job working within the Porsche framework for RR IV and the Club Race group was pretty fun. It was not, nor was meant to be, a "normal" club race in terms of competing. We were guests and were asked to put on a gentlemanly show. For the most part folks did just that. I think PCA is likely to announce a similar approach for RR V. And this time, who knows, maybe there will be a DE event right adjacent to RR V, just like there have been adjacent to some of the other Porche-focused events at Laguna. I am sure PAG, PMNA and PCA will keep folks informed. If you are indeed planning on coming out here next year, and NorCal is part of your geographical agenda, please keep an eye on PRC events as well as those run by PCA Regions like Golden Gate, Monterey Bay, Diablo, and Sac Valley. All are excellent groups and may have opportunities for you to experience DE driving and/or racing. And of course our community is replete with shops and individuals willing to put out a welcome mat. I suggest identifying lodging targets as soon as you are able. And I'd consider less traditional solutions like home and condo rentals not only in Monterey, buy also in Carmel, Seaside and Marina areas, et cetera. Back in 1998 for the big Porsche celebration at the historics, my wife and I rented a beachside townhouse with about 3 other couples, and we had a blast. We even had an enclosed garage, which was great because we all instructed/drove in the adjacent DE, and we had tires to change, et cetera.

Mike,
Good point about lodging. Better to start planning now. Rooms will go fast and the price will go up a lot. The drivers from PCA did put on a good show. I enjoyed watching you all. Wish I could work more PCA events...If you are willing to drive a little bit (30 minutes) try some of the hotels a little bit further north on HWY1.

just heard the date had moved to 24 to 27 Sept. Scrambled to rebook my room at the Embassy Suites in Seaside from original date. Very very surprised to find the rate had actually dropped to $239 per night. Been seeing other forums where the Hyatt was really gouging on rates and rules. When I hung up from the Embassy Suites res line, there were still rooms available.

They moved the date so 2 cars could compete in a race? I'd like to see the 919 just as much as the next guy but to move an entire event when most people have hotel arrangements made months ago??? Amateur
How was it not known this race conflicted with the event????
