Please STOP breeding! 3 y.o. shoots parents

New Mexico toddler shoots father, pregnant mother, police say | Fox News

ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. – A 3-year-old boy found a handgun in his mother's purse and fired just one shot that wounded both his parents at an Albuquerque motel on Saturday, police said.

According to investigators, the toddler apparently reached for an iPod but found the loaded weapon. Police believe the shooting to be accidental.

The bullet first struck his father in the buttock and then hit the right shoulder of his mother, who is eight months pregnant, police said. His 2-year-old sister was present but unhurt.

Both injuries are non-life threatening, authorities said.

Justin Reynolds told KOB-TV that he and his girlfriend, Monique Villescas, were getting ready to order pizza when the toddler fired the shot.

"It was like if I was to get up shake your hand and sat back down. That's how fast it happened," Reynolds said." All of a sudden we heard a gun go off and the next minute I realized my girlfriend was bleeding. Then, I sat down and realized I was shot, too."

Reynolds said he called 911 and grabbed some towels to try to stop her bleeding.

"I was more worried about my girlfriend than myself and anything else that was going on. And my son because I didn't know if he had shot himself or not," said Reynolds. "He was shocked and crying. It was traumatizing."

Police said in a statement that the father was treated and released, while the mother was hospitalized in stable condition.

"This case will be forwarded to the DA's office and pending charges of felony criminal negligence will be reviewed on both parents," Albuquerque police Simon Drobik spokesman said.

The Albuquerque Journal reports that the family was living in a room at the America's Best Value Inn where the shooting occurred.

Police said child care officials are taking care of the children.

Jonathan Hutson, a spokesman for the Washington-based Brady Campaign and Center to Prevent Gun Violence, said the shooting should serve as a reminder to all parents to keep guns locked away securely. dippity doodah....

Too late to stop that breeding. Parents need to go to jail and lose right to own guns until both kids are adults.

Kids are in protective care. Police say they are going to get hit with a criminal negligence felony charge.

Will get pleaded down to a misdemeanor, will continue to breed and own guns. We're doomed.

I like the part where the kid found the gun more fun than the ipad.

Only one shot fired ----------- and the bonus........... hits the father in the azz.

Police 'believe' it was accident. oooh, my belly aching from laughing-

Tragedy or learning experience? It was a funny comment, but in our gun culture, how long before a kid intentionally shoots his dad in the ass over a TV show?

onewhippedpuppy 02-01-2015 08:02 PM

Two kids, pregnant with number three, not married, living in a hotel, loaded gun readily accessible......all sorts of win there.

masraum 02-01-2015 08:18 PM

I very much appreciate the humor.

Fortunately, this situation wasn't that bad. I like the fact that the dad got shot in the ass.

At least it didn't turn out like this one.

This is the real tragedy. WTF is wrong with people? Procreation is a CHOICE in the 21st century.

Father shot in the butt, in a hotel room, kids by who knows how many people + wouldn't turn on Spongebob would make the whole thing read like an article from The Onion.

ckelly78z 02-02-2015 04:07 AM

So why was the Father shot in the Butt and the Mother was shot in the shoulder.....proximity suggests that hanky panky was occuring. Maybe they should have done that to prevent all the pregnancies.

Reading this article leaves me with some questions. I am by no means a gun guy, I love to shoot but have never owned a firearm and have only shot at supervised ranges. I totally understand the allure of guns, and I am not an anti gun nut or anything like that. But this article purports that this couple are very responsible gun owners and this is nothing but a tragic mistake, that the gun was safely concealed and carried. So would that not mean that a two year old not only located the gun in the concealed zippered compartment, but also chambered a round, removed the safety and then shot his mother? Or is it possible to be considered a "responsible" gun owner and carry, around kids mind you, with a round chambered and the safety off?

masraum 02-02-2015 08:52 AM

Right, just a bit odd. leaving the child out of the equation, I can see carrying a DAO gun with a round chambered. Many DAO guns don't have safeties, but the triggers are usually long and heavy enough that it doesn't matter. Also, most guns have a pretty big grip. I'm wondering in both of these situations what sort of gun was involved and how the kid managed to pull the trigger?
