48 Hours of Sebring High Points
What a great weekend. David Murray had an event prior to the Club Race event so we had a good group of guys hanging out Wednesday and Thursday. This event is awesome and all of the drivers are accessible like real humans as even us/we are drivers. The pro-drivers are bunch of great guys.
1. Patrick Long - Had to take off early for race elsewhere. 2. Jan Heylan - Hung out till Friday and a great guy 3. Brian Sellers - Chilling on Wednesday and Thursday 4. Damian Faulkner - I think he was coaching 5. Patrick Lindsey - This is real man speed in this guy, plus he is a good guy 6. Dr. Jim Norman - Driving the endure with P Lindsey. He is local here 7. Justin Wilson - Indy car driver navigating a 964!! He did great 8. Nick Longhi - I saw him on Wednesday with Murray group. 9. Randy Pobst - He was hanging around the whole weekend 10. David Murray - Around the whole weekend and a super guy 11. Juan Lopez-Santini - Our local Club Racer that should have been a pro driver! Anybody got pics? I have a few but I am not a big picture taker...... |
I stopped by the track on Tuesday on my way back from Miami and spent about an hour taking these...

Thanks Joe! I made #11 on your list!
My high points, - hanging out with Joe and Jim - hanging out with Matt-GT Gears and using my new GT LSD which he personally setup for me! - beating the big guys and cars to a fast lap of 2:07.06! - codriving on Blue Dawg (#29 72 ST), starting dead last on the enduro getting to P1 by the time I stopped for a driver's change. BTW, 2:22.55 on a 2.5 liter is not bad at all ;) - being introduced by Joe to Patrick and Jim. Super cool guys - being approached several times about going for a pro-drive Loved the event and the hospitality of all at Suncoast and GoldCoast. Also, finding the hidden "easter egg" on the program for the event.... I am listed as a member of both Gold Coast and Suncoast regions!!!! I'm Gold Coast by geography but Suncoast by heart since I learned to drive with them on their DE program. Here's some in car video from my seat on my 2008 Cup <iframe width="560" height="315" src="https://www.youtube.com/embed/-g5K7_Fzopg" frameborder="0" allowfullscreen></iframe> |
Interesting to see your RPMs almost never drop under 5000,
and are generally kept between 6000 and 8200. |
i would give your left nut for a sequential shift transmission!

ShakinJoe - what car number were you running?
I was # 185 - had to bug out early Sunday after I flat spotted the right front in turn 3 - damn - hit a wet spot and dragged the locked tire about 75 feet. Bill K |
Bill,
My engine is on the stand with the lower half built. I expect to be back in a short time. I helped out the PCA volunteers and some traffic control and corner worker delivery. Funny thing this traffic control....since the hans device became a standard feature along with halo seats, drivers have a hard time turning their head left and right while maneuvering around the paddock to and from the grid and off the track to their pit stall. The track actually hired two people to man hot points the entire weekend! I gave them breaks which means I did not do much! So I hung out with Juan is number one on all of list! |

Look forward to seeing you out there driving your car!!! SmileWavy |
I watched Juan driving that 2.0L car and running with some serious 3.0L sheet metal and even newer SP996 cars. It almost did not look right....meaning,how is that car keeping up with the rest. In fact he was running them down.
I was with R Proudfit watching his car run as he lent it to a friend. |
I watched Juan's 12 lap race on Sat and it was a sight to behold. He got squeezed off the front row in turn one and pushed back 400-500 ft. by the time they came to turn 5. It took him about 3 laps to track down the bigger, more powerful leader, pass him, and win by about 1/2 mile. Holy moly !
Count me in as a newbie to the Hans device this year - many thanks to the volunteers that helped to make it easier for us. Bill K |
Any more pics?

You got over the bump approaching T3. Cost me a new slick that weekend. See the smoke at the end of my video ;) Love your car!!! I know the perfect act way through that section fast and not killing your tires |

thanks Dude - you know the perfect way through all the turns on that track. Quite a performance Saturday, congrats !! Bill K |
I was not on that session so I don't know if there was a wet spot there. However, there is a black patch of pavement right past the cut out for that road on the right which is not as abrasive as the rest of the track.
To compound the situation, there is a slight depression (look carefully and you'll see what I mean) were that road comes which, if you are way right, makes the car light by the time you hit the black patch and its time to get on the binders. I love Sebring and have driven many laps by now. I have the record on GT6S, GT5 and Vintage plus I'm kind of fast on the Cup too... ;) There are many very small details on that track which makeup at least a second when you put them all together. Feel free to ask... |
