Book recommendation

Just finished "The Girl on the Train", and liked it a lot. Described as a psychological thriller, interesting characters, all flawed.

Reading "Bad Monkey" by Carl Hiassen. Love his books for pure entertainment...based on the seamy side of life in S. FLA. Talk about flawed...

"The Fallow Season of Hugo Hunter"

This is the fictional story of a gifted boxer who blew two chances at a title fight; told through the story of his best friend, the newspaper reporter who covered his career.

Exceptionally well written.

All the books in Craig Johnson's Sheriff Walt Longmire series. Just about as good as it gets.

I did all the John Grisham books before I got into Lee Child.....I like all the books about the 1996 Mt. Everest season for non-fiction. Start with the Beck Weathers or Jon KraKauer.

I've read a lot of books over the past few years, but was not prepared for J. A. Konrath's (or Jack Kilborn's) books. I read "Origin" and "The List" and found them both entertaining and disturbing at the same time. I started to read "Trapped" but actually didn't. It comes with this warning on amazon.com (and it's not a publicity stunt):

Quote:
A Word of Warning:

This is the long-awaited follow-up to AFRAID, one of the most horrifying books ever written.

Originally scheduled to be released in paperback in 2010, the publisher read the first version of the manuscript and refused to release it. The author made extensive changes, rewriting much of the story. The publisher still refused.

This is a disturbing, terrifying book. You may think you're brave enough to handle it. But you're probably not...

BTDT. He seems to have faded out......Robert B Parker died.....that is a good excuse.

I've been pushing "The American Rifle"...non fiction.....if you like history, jump on it, you won't be sorry.....It's good for multiple reads.

NEXT?

Anything by Cormac McCarthy
- Border Trilogy (helps to have a working knowledge of conversational Spanish - but not necessary)
- No Country for Old Men

Both of Laura Hillenbrand's books
Anything by Hampton Sides.

Lamb, The gospel according to Biff, Christ's childhood pal by Christopher Moore, and all his other books as well.
Lamb is a very humurous look at Christ's lost years...educational and funny as hell.

Just finished William Gibson's "The Peripheral." At first I had a little trouble following the extensive and varied list of characters, and was ready to put it down with the Blue Ant books (not my favorite). After a while, though, it came together. I found it a really enjoyable read. Its no Neuromancer by any means, but a good read.

For those of you into military stuff, check out "Redeployed" by Phil Klay. National Book Award winner, and as good as it gets.

Gary
