Book recommendation
Just finished "The Girl on the Train", and liked it a lot. Described as a psychological thriller, interesting characters, all flawed.

Reading "Bad Monkey" by Carl Hiassen. Love his books for pure entertainment...based on the seamy side of life in S. FLA. Talk about flawed...

"The Fallow Season of Hugo Hunter"
This is the fictional story of a gifted boxer who blew two chances at a title fight; told through the story of his best friend, the newspaper reporter who covered his career. Exceptionally well written. Last edited by herr_oberst; 02-02-2015 at 01:28 PM.. |

All the books in Craig Johnson's Sheriff Walt Longmire series. Just about as good as it gets.

I did all the John Grisham books before I got into Lee Child.....I like all the books about the 1996 Mt. Everest season for non-fiction. Start with the Beck Weathers or Jon KraKauer.

I've read a lot of books over the past few years, but was not prepared for J. A. Konrath's (or Jack Kilborn's) books. I read "Origin" and "The List" and found them both entertaining and disturbing at the same time. I started to read "Trapped" but actually didn't. It comes with this warning on amazon.com (and it's not a publicity stunt):

Lamb, The gospel according to Biff, Christ's childhood pal by Christopher Moore, and all his other books as well.
Lamb is a very humurous look at Christ's lost years...educational and funny as hell.

The Orenda by Joseph Boyden is also a very good read.

Just finished William Gibson's "The Peripheral." At first I had a little trouble following the extensive and varied list of characters, and was ready to put it down with the Blue Ant books (not my favorite). After a while, though, it came together. I found it a really enjoyable read. Its no Neuromancer by any means, but a good read.
For those of you into military stuff, check out "Redeployed" by Phil Klay. National Book Award winner, and as good as it gets. Gary |
