Is there some bigger meaning between the different acronyms and who uses them.

the white house has never given a reason for abandoning isis for isil. here are some people randomly guessing.

I had to google Daesh. It sounds like the name I will use for that bunch.

Both wrong. It's IS, as an acronym.

But maybe pronounced Isil or even ISIS, so it sounds better.

ISIL = Islamic State In the Levant

ISIS = Islamic State In Syria

IS = Islamic State

The Levant is a geographical area that includes the general area where the Islamic crazies are operating, so it's more correct than ISIS.

Correct. When they were only or primarily operating in Syria, ISIS was accurate. Now, with their spread to Iraq and other countries in the region, ISIL is more accurate. It's simply an acronym for the Islamic State group/celiphate that includes "in blank".

This political garbage belongs in PARF, anyways.

As stated, they were operating primarily in Syria (hence ISIS). They were sorta administration buddies because BO liked them better than Assad in Syria...similar to our terrorist buddies who we helped bring down in Egypt and Libya (bad guys, but nothing like these animals). We watched them roll down into Iraq...the JV squad of terrorists just going for a innocent little camping trip in the desert. We couldn't do anything about it because our leader was a bit cross with the elected leader of Iraq who had somehow dissed him. Besides, the administration's greatest victory was getting us out of Iraq and having the terrorists on the run...so couldn't burst that bubble.

Soon, without our help, most of Iraq had fallen (a little airpower and intel would have made the difference)...the JV terrorist guys decided to upgrade their name for a little street cred. First ISIL to show they run a new hood....and now Islamic State (IS) so they can put themselves on the level of other nations...and eventually get foreign aid from us like the Palestinians (HAMAS), North Korea, Iran, Cuba and other terrorist states.

WTF with all the PARF topics in PPOT? Were the mods kidnapped by ISIS?

Maybe the problem is so bad now that even snarky PPOT folks are beginning to be concerned/interested. Don't worry, they will soon be sent to PARF and recipes, manscaping and Craig's List finds will once more command the attention of the OT crowd and they can forget this temporary silliness that is destroying their world...until some new atrocity has a well produced video to command their attention.

I don't start religious or political threads here, or introduce politics or religion...that is usually the folks that stay out of PARF (as we already debate the same topics there). Once a political or religious topic is breached...it is fair game to refute the poster. I see you have made a couple yourself. Were you intentionally disrespecting Wayne and the rules, the rules don't apply until you disagree, or...like me, responding to others?

My posts aren't political or religious. You've stated before your disdain for the PPOT/PARF split. I guess it's not surprising that you couldn't give a damn about the rules.

I would consider some of your posts in these threads to be religious/political for example, your duck/rabbit season cartoon. Otherwise, I apparently did not understand the nuance.

Of course, I would prefer you not create my opinion for me. I think I state it reasonably well on my own.

While I realize PARF stands for "politics and religion forum", I thought it was more for threads that became contentious. I'd enjoy healthy discussions on such topics but would hesitate to start one in a room known for folks that just scream at each other.

ISIL (Levant) is specific to target lands including Israel.
