Corvairs look pretty darn good (to me) going down the road but a titch off in images...not sure why.

I like it, but have my "fun money" tied up elsewhere.

40k with a minute to go....

nota 02-07-2015 11:21 AM

I went thru vairs when they were giveaway cheap in the early 70's
$100 to 200 if super nice low miles ect

the idea of 40k even for a yenko is strange to me
and yes I know what a stinger is

However I'm just a po boy and if I have $40K to spend on a car there are a LOT of interesting options out there! ***cough 996 turbo cough***

I think we've got a couple of guys here on the board (or, at least, used to) that had several Corvairs and I think one has a couple of Yenkos.

I wanted one and did some research into them years ago, but decided that they weren't right for me at the time.

Corvairs are awesome cars and probably the most under appreciated classics out there. Most people don't realize Nader's claims about the Corvair were proven to be false in NHTSA studies. But it took until 1970 to get those studies done and by then the industry had moved on. Very interesting history when you start reading about Ed Cole and the Corvairs development.

Corvairs were the:
World's first turbocharged production car
America's first all aluminum engine
One of America's first four wheel independent suspension production cars
The list goes on.

In the words of Jay Leno: "What Ralph Nader really did was to set the US auto industry twenty years behind".

That said $40k is cheap for a real Yenko Stinger. I think the one Leno bought was closer to six figures.

I work on the time Allen show and among his collection he has had a corvair now and then. he actually raced one in the Los Angeles Grand Prix . He currently has a corvair project underway with a highly modified but corvair engine being built for it .
