Bought a GoPro........really neat!

Well I finally broke down and bought one, a model 4 Silver and I am amazed at how small, easy to use, clean the videos are and the wide range of accessories they have. I shot a short video last weekend while at our monthly muzzle loader match and posted one of several I shot on YouTube. I found that having the camera sitting on a block of walnut (no small tripod then, have one now) made some sounds way louder than they should be. Bought several extras, one is the harness that I have mounted several times on one of our Pugs and the videos of them playing tug of war are great! I need to make it a bit smaller, probably this week, as there seems to be only one size here?

If you plug it in to the PC, the videos automatically transfer and their editing software seems to work pretty well. It seems to be the next generation from the one I used to have in my 914-6 race car which was a 720 resolution at best and this one is 1080 or better which look great on out big TV.

Can you post a video?

I haven't bought a Go-Pro because of all my idiot dirtbike and snowmobile friends posting every little move on Facebook......It really get old after awhile.........

My son got the Gopro 3, he loves it. I picked up the Garmin VIRB and it works really well. It is more streamlined than the Gopro so it works better on RC airplanes IMHO. but there is a color / lighting difference. I think the gopro has better picture.

I had a video camera in my vintage race car and never posted a video on line but I did burn some DVDs with videos and sent them to family members I see very little and they loved them. I sold the race car several years ago and I still watch the videos of some of the races now and then since I really miss the race weekends! I think the way the new digital video systems interact with the new digital displays takes some adjusting and GoPro mentions that depending on the TV that the setting of their camera may need adjustments from standard.

If you search on YouTube for black powder videos or one with my name you'll see the first one I shot. You'll see why the camera picked up sounds from a shooting bench easily since I did not have a small tripod at the time. Now I have one plus an external mic so sound will be better. Today I want to do some videos that show how to paper patch 560 grain bullets, what a 1000 yard muzzle loader is like and so on. I'll probably post one or two of these but we'll see.

They can be fun if they catch something really cool, dumb or catastrophic unfolding. Mostly they are boring. Some folks put a lot of effort into the production and can do really cool stuff with vids.

The idea of the video getting boring is very true. I learned this back in 1998 with the first VHS recording system I put in my race car. While the videos were sort of low resolution, if there were no cars in front that you were trying to pass made things look like just driving to work!!!!! So I learned who else had camera systems and most of us took turns passing and re-passing to get videos that were fun to watch. There were enough races so we all won some and the best video in all the races I did was the last one where Tony Kopacz and his 911 beat me by 0.007 seconds at PIR and you could hear his engine screaming like crazy over top of mine! I watch that one several times a year just for the ability to relive it!

Cameras are way cool I think.
