Hi

Hawking
Hello Everyone,
![]() On Saturday the family and I spent some time with Jim (Pelican, lowyder993s) and his hawk. Jim brought his hawk out to the desert in search for a meal out in the desert plain. Jim, thanks for letting us share your hawking adventure. Here are some photos for you to enjoy. ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]()

Stunning bird. I love birds of pray they are so graceful and majestic and efficient hunters. I love to watch the local hawk clean my property of the rodents. They are amazing. The original death from above

Thx a ton for coming out...another fine Pelican is Larry. What was REALLY AWESOME was we got to watch Peppermint soar. Usually she hunts from high perches while we bust brush. There was enough wind and at 1st she'd fly about 30 yds downwind and 20 ft high. After about 15 minutes she was a couple hundred yds away and over 100 ft high! We all remarked that it looked like she was really enjoying herself! Except for the Ravens that were hassling her. We'll be back out there for sure! Please thank your son for the pix, they're awesome!!!

Hi
|
It was very cool to touch this bird. If you notice, I touched her with a closed fist; I didn't want her to mistake one of my fingers for a meal.

Beauty. Don't hunt near any wind farms.

Peppermint is looking great, really " sharp set"
It would have been a thrill to see her stoop to game, perhaps next time. What kind of telemetry is that? That was more of a longwing thing when I was practicing, great insurance. Bummer about the ravens. |

What a truly magnificent animal. What sort of lifespan do they have?

UNREAL!!! Her 1st game from a soar this am!!! We weren't even trying...calm winds. She got up with a resident bird and they were doing lazy 360's...thought she might float out with other bird. After a half dozen turns she just straight ed out...couple hard wing beats and just folded up from 50 feet high!!! Couldn't believe it! Currently at Urgent Care...apprentice mistake of using ungloved hand to hold cotton tail while dispatching it. WAY MORE than half her talon in my hand! Wouldn't let go for 5 minutes. ..1st time being footed like that!

COOL, that was always my favorite to watch!! Something about a wingover, and the way they fold... Congratulations.
The apprentice will only make that mistake once, ask me how I know. |
