At least baseball is consistent, teaching how to cheat at an early age
Very sad since none of the kids were probably involved in any way. I know when I was that age, if someone asked if I wanted to go play baseball for some "all-star" team, I doubt I would have known about boundaries, etc.
Little League strips Chicago team of U.S. championship, suspends coach - ESPN Chicago |
I'm surprised anything like that could come out of Chicago!

Little League Baseball is racist. Somebody tell Rev. Sharpton.

They even got to see Obama at the White House

And the losers are the kids.

I have seen this happen repeatedly in leagues (Pony and LL) all across SoCal. Teams in play-off/championship games quietly adding a couple 'kids' to their roster. The major tournament organizers are much stricter and coaches have to register their rosters for each season. We did not experience this sort of thing in Pop Warner but I know for sure we played a few teams that had boys who were clearly playing down. I do enjoy watching the LLWS but also acknowledge the mountains of back stabbing and dirty politics involved in getting and playing there. |
Very sadly, this could be a life altering event for some of these boys. Depending on the type of home they come from it could be very negative. They got screwed and now they are going to take it out on the world.
Let's hope I'm wrong. |
This really is a heartbreaker for these kids. It was one of the most covered 'events' in Chicago last Summer with rally's, parades, crazy amount of major network coverage.

Those boys are still champs in my eyes.
The coaches/admin that gamed the system however, are schmucks. |
and lets not forget this:

It bums me out to see this. There are good and bad in any organization and it is a pretty constant tug of war between those who have their hearts in the right place and those who do not.

I feel more sorry for the kids on the opponent teams that followed the rules and lost to this all-star team. You only have a short time to play little league and their chances to get to the little league world series were hampered by this all-star team. What kind of message does it send to them? What do you say to those kids? "Buckle up little buttercup. Someone will always be cheating. You played your best and lost because someone else broke the rules, but that is just the way it is..."
Seems like everyone of the kids who played little league that year have lost in some way. |
