Contact lens recommendations?
The past few years I have been using Johnson & Johnson 1 Day Acuview.
I know there have been improvements and new technologies and would appreciate anyone's input on what they are using....and why. FWIW, my Rx is the same in both eyes: Power: -3.75, BC: 8.5, Dia: 14.2 Thanks in advance!

My last visit I was given Acuview Oasys and I really like them. They are combination lenses, reading for my left eye and distance for my right. I take them out each night and swap out for my backup set every few days. I need to order another years worth, now that I think about it.
I am pretty much blind without corrective lenses.

Thanks Wayne. I think I did try some of those a couple years ago. They seem to be very popular. Maybe I'll give them a try next order.
Thanks again for your input!

Thanks Neil!
I like to take mine out at night but maybe these would still be more comfortable whether I do or not. Interesting......thanks!

Baz,
Acuvue 1 Day and Acuvue 1 Day Moist are single day lenses. Acvue Oasys is a 2 week disposable so changing to Oasys is not a direct transfer. You'd need to get back to using a case, solutions and cleaning/changing same. Base curves are not the same between the two either. Oxygen permeability is one variable between lens materials with Night & Day being a silicone hydrogel with much higher permeability which allows over night wear. While FDA approved for up to 30 days wear it is still a good idea to remove them weekly and clean them. I recommend using a hydrogen peroxide based system for this regimen. CooperVision has recently come out with a single day silicone hydrogel, Clariti, which would give you the single use lens you currently use and the higher oxygen permeability benefits of the Night & Day lens. There are other similar lenses from other manufacturers who will likely have a single day lens at some point too. Contact lens wear does carry an increased risk of eye infection no matter what kind of lens is chosen. Some studies have found a 10 fold increase over no lens wear even with proper care. Discuss this with your eye care provider to make the best choice for your vision and eye health. D

Thanks for your input, D!
I have used the extended wear type brands before - but always took them out each night and used a no-rub solution on them overnight. I'm definitely going to look into the Clariti units. Thanks again!

Baz, are the ones you're currently using look like this?
![]() If so, there are two generations of 1 day disposables from Acuvue that have since been released. First is Acuvue One Day Moist, the other being TruEye. I work at an optometry office and am the guinea pig for any and all new brands of contacts, and to date the TruEye is my absolute favorite. I normally wear monthly lenses (currently, Bosch and Lomb Ultra's) but if I have to travel or go on a roadtrip I make sure I have the TruEye's in my eyes. I don't feel them at all, and stays moist even after a really long day. Since your eyes are different than mine your mileage may vary, but definitely worth a shot if you like having daily lenses. If I could afford them I definitely would have a year's supply of TruEye's! There are also many different brands of 1 day disposable contacts from each major manufacturer; Coopervision has their ProClear 1 day's, B&L has their BioTrue One Day's, and Alcon/CibaVision has their Daily Comfort Plus dailes as well as the relatively new Dailies Total One. This one was supposed to be the end all be all, but I hated them. Next time you get your yearly checkup just ask the doctor to try different brands; you might find something that is more comfortable than what you currently have.

Hi Jeff,
Thanks a lot for your post and info. Yes those are exactly what I am using. It's funny that you mention the TruEyes because I have a pair left from a sample pack given to me a couple years ago. Still sealed. I may try them out later this week. I don't remember any thoughts one way or another when I went through the other 4 pair but now maybe along with your recommendation I will be able to make a better judgement. I have tried those Alcon Dailies and agree - they are not that great. I agree getting some more samples would be the way to go. Thanks again for the input...it's greatly appreciated!

I'm curious on what you think about B&L ultra contacts, because there is very little user information about them so far. I wear Purevison 2 most of the time and use them overnight also sometimes. Been doing that a long time. I been reading about the Ultra for awhile and the specs are better than Purevison. So just wondering what you thought of them and if anyone is wearing them overnight that you know of. I know they can be worn overnight because of what I've read and the higher Dk/t. |

I wore contacts for 25 years.
One day in a new (to me) sailplane, lots of turbulance (rotor) a contact popped out. Try landing a high performance sailplane with one eye, no depth perception. to add to my anxiety, my spare glasses were no longer in my pocket and somewhere in the depths of the sailplane chassis. Got LASIK and never looked back. Vision is much better than with contacts. Contacts have knarly issues w infections, debris, etc. that can be serious. LASIK in 2015 is a very safe and precise procedure. Just be sure the laser is 2012 or newer and reputable surgeon. ![]() |

Amazing....that would have freaked me out!
I lost my left lens last week on the way to a job but kept going and managed to get done what was needed. I thought about having a pair of glasses as backup - will probably do that. I'm interested in lasic at some point but need to do more research on it first. Thanks for your input Maniac - have fun upstairs!
