Bob Simon killed in New York car crash

Sad to see him go out this way - what an amazing career though. I've always appreciated his style and zen.

Check out this obit if you want to read about the real deal...not one that feels they have to embellish the truth!

Godspeed Bob.....

Really sad to hear. Apparently not wearing a seat belt...

Por_sha911 02-12-2015 12:15 PM

Sad story.

I wonder if Brian Williams claims he was in the car.

scottmandue 02-12-2015 12:22 PM

Sad...

Ironic that he had covered every war Vietnam to present from the battle field and finds the end of his days on the streets of N.Y. in a car crash.

Just goes to show you never know when your time will be up.

Did you see that Towne Car? How fast was he going? Don't know if the belt would have saved him - but it couldn't have hurt!

What a shame!

Having seen the Mythbusters episode where they t-bone one at 30mph and seeing how it folded up I don't know I want to ride in one. This could have been normal highway speed, depending on what they hit.

....the driver lost control, sideswiped a Mercedes-Benz and ran into a metal median separating traffic on the highway, according to the New York Police Department.

That car must have been really moving....

Sad news indeed. I have always liked his pieces on 60 Minutes. RIP.

Not wearing a seat belt !!!!!

plexiform 02-12-2015 07:24 PM

RIP. He was a great reporter.

'60 Minutes' will air Bob's last segment on Sunday (7pm ET on CBS) which is on the Ebola vaccine called Zmapp.

In the meantime, if you have not seen this previously aired segment...you may find it, as I did, quite uplifting.

Last of a breed!

I remember his reports from Vietnam. I thought it was a shame to see a real newsman put on 60 Minutes, but his pieces were always classy. RIP.
