Pelican MDs.. Skin tag on inside of lower eyelid. Advice?

Ok, so i've developed a skin tag on the inside of my lower eyelid, right near the edge. It isnt affecting my vision or irritating my eye, although it looks strange..

Its not a stye, far as I can tell, the area around isnt infected and its not swollen.

I get these in other areas once in a while and just snip em off, hesitant to do that for my eyelid..

How is this treated normally with the surrounding area? mucosa, blood vessels, etc?

Some reabsorb. I'd see a ophthalmologist if you decide to have it removed. Skin tags are sometimes a sign of high blood sugar.

You're probably right, skin tags have a characteristic appearance but 1st make sure that's what it is, basal cell and squamous cell cancers of the eyelid are common.

I usually remove them in the office- a little lidocaine, excise, and one 10-0 nylon suture done in the office under an operating microscope. Best to do it this way to prevent scarring of the lid margin that could cause blink/tear problems. If it is in the corner near the nose you have to be careful because that is where the tear duct is. Some spontaneously outgrow their blood supply over time and reabsorb on their own.

Hope that helps- probably more than you wanted.

Charles
