remember grade school Calisthentics? they suck as an adult.

holey krappes.

just got done with a trail run. got a bug up my arse to try some more once i got home.

10 burbees (we called them ups/downs)
30 mountain climbs (push up position and you pump your legs like your trying to climb a mountain)
and i lost count at 3 i think...double pump squats...full down, half down squat to a hop.

i hate the gym. i'm gonna try to do more stuff in my backyard with my own body weight..sucks i have a lot of body weight.

what else is there? without equipment..i think i am going to try to do all the stuff they tortured us as kids.

Body weight stuff is all I do now, all outdoors, been 4 years. The first time you do 100 pushups within 2-3 minutes you feel like freaking Thor. Then, 100 squat thrusts within 5 minutes makes you feel like king of the world. Running is the time for your heart rate to slow down between cals...

Until tomorrow. Tomorrow is nothing but pain and pain and more pain. Oh...the day after tomorrow? EVEN WORSE.
try 8 count body builders.
8 counts:
1: squat down
2: Kick back
3,4: Push up
5,6: Kicks legs out to a V and back
7: Tuck legs back under
8: stand up.

It's a burpee and a pushup and a jumping jack all kinda blended together. 10 hurt, 20 makes you puke.

Body weight exercise is the best easiest cheapest thing you can do, you can ALWAYS get a workout, and if things get easy, just pick up a book/brick/rock whatever and do the same thing for an hour. still easy? Pick up 2 of them. Do everything with your eyes closed. Do it in the summertime. Do it one legged. You can always make body weight stuff harder and harder and harder, there is never a reason for dumbbells.

Vash! That's not even my bootcamp warmup..LOL Hang in there, it WILL get easier. I puked after my first bootcamp session last May. Now I think I am am in the best physical shape ever. Go back tomorrow! Try some man-makers..25lb dumb bell in each hand..drop to the floor, pushup, row each arm towards the armpit, standup, do an overhead press! Those will make ya cry

I am not motivated enough to do it alone. Having accountability of group training is the way to go for me. Oh, and I am down 30+ lbs and can see my WHOLE wanker now...haha

OK, I restarted in my early 50's. My Wife, 40, also started same time frame. She has been MORE effective than I!!!

Starting out, cut out ALL carbonated beverages. Just because it says diet does not mean it is good for you, in fact, all carbonated beverages are really NOT very good for you. Wife lost two sizes after doing this.

I started by trying to cut down on my food intake. I did not worry too much about calories, just cut down to about a pound a meal, did not count things like celery and watermelon as weight. Removed breads and fried foods. Meat serving closer to 4oz. I lost some size over time, about 2 inches.

Work outs started as walking going from three to twelve miles per day in one session. Started jogging for part of it. Found park with lots of hills to go up and down, run up, walk or jog down. Mix with rowing. Started doing push-ups, the old airborne pushups (your burpies), and sit-ups.

Look up planks. Work up in five second intervals. Do side planks. Great for your middle section! My co-worker here can do planks for up to three minutes. He is a demon!!!!

Wife started doing lunges at the track. Worked up to 1/8 mile lunging, 1/4 mile jog. Moved up to weights with lunges. She also rows twice per day from 3 to 5 kms. She also walks through the local parks with the dogs.

I went to barbells. Also look into holding the barbells out to your sides and in front of you for several seconds at a time. Use low weights, trust me. These get heavier than you think!!!! We have weights with handholds in them made by Iron Grip.

Wife went from a 16 to an 8 in about one year! She dropped a lot of weight, then started putting on more weight as she dropped from 12 to 8, muscle weighs more than fat! She is at her goal.

In the year I have lost about three inches or so, I am dropping below 35" waste (sp ;-) hoping for 34". I have dropped from 225 to 200, up to 208 over the past six to eight weeks. I am 5'11" and not that big of a build.

My current routine shifts day to day. My co-workers and I do stretching in the AM, then I do either a 5K row (from 20 to 23 minutes for me to complete on toughest setting) or 5K walking/jogging uphill on a treadmill at a 10 to 15% grade (this takes a bit more time). I then hit the weights focusing on 20 to 30 pounds for my arms/chest and 50 to 60 pounds on my legs. I focus on multiple reps not tonnage.

During the day we do four sets of 40+ each pushups, one set of 200 arm rotations, lifting barbells, and stretching. Airbornes are thrown in once or twice per day.

My knee was bothering me with the 3 to 5 mile runs in the morning so I have had to give that up. The ground here is just too darn hard and my other choice is running on roads, blacktop is only slightly softer ;-).

I will go back to the local parks when I return home.

My goal: 34" waist, I do not care how much I weigh. Wife's goal was size 6, I am more than happy with size 8, healthy, and still able to put up with my **** and work!!!!!

Turning 50 in a few months, and I have a slower desk/prototype job (was out in the factory for 15 years), so i've gained a few pounds over the Winter. I may start doing some school calisthentics to ensure my tired, broken down body can make it to retirement. Was 170 lbs for years, now up to 185.

Step ups- Not just regular steps but find something to step up on where if you put one foot on the step your knee and your hip are at 90degree angles.

Squat jumps

Jump rope

Flutter Kicks

Planks front and sides

And for an extra challenge:

Find an old Army PT manual. Lots of calisthenics in there.
By old I mean mid-80s at the latest.

I'm gonna start slow because I have no choice. Haha.

I found my kettle bell in the garage.

I'm going to try and take this serious.

Go at it slowly. The game is simple: Calories in/Calories out. Whatever is greater will win.

Do a sport, join a bunch of other fat people in a meetup group. It'll help to know that you're not the only one.

For a guy who spends 12-15 hrs a day at a computer, I have managed to get into and stay in pretty good shape over the last 4 or 5 years. I reduced carbs and do pushups, crunches/situps and run about 3 times a week. I bought and use a treadmill since it is usually too hot, cold, or dark out to run outside.

I saw a guy manage to wrap those around his neck and nearly kill himself while 'working out'......once he was out of it and not permanently injured, it was hilarious....

LOL. Yeah I see it all the time in the gym. People try to invent their own exercises. Usually doesn't end well.

Always makes for good gym entertainment.

Nothing like the simple/basic exercises. I like a simple circuit with variations of push ups, mountain climbers, rows/upright rows, ball slams, rowing machine... sure gets the heart working.
