Lincoln Mark VIii

Any opinions about buying one of these now 25 or so year old cars? Not for a DD, just a toy.

Check out the Mark III. A real land yacht. An uncle had one from new, that was some car! A several head of cattle died for the interior.

Odd toy to be sure. But they do have the 4v 4.6 modular V8. 290hp from the factory, bottom end should be good for 425 if you want to put a blower on it. I have admittedly never driven one, but I would bet a lot of fun for very little $, and comfortable as well.

These are awesome. A friend is doing a transplant into his moms old country squire wagon from when he was a kid. He is doing a 01 crown Vic chassis with the mark 8 engine and trans. It will be a real sleeper. The mark 8 donor car was perfect and he drove it quite a bit first. Really nice driving car.

Get a 460 in that puppy, tweek the suspension a bit, and it's a helluva sleeper on the track...particularly the road courses! We have a PPOT resident expert on this already

My buddy had one in college. The air suspension was shot so the rear sagged and the front pointed up high. Great car though, incredibly comfortable

Love the look of that Mark111, could be from the Rockford files.

This luxobarge showed up at my place a while back to be stored for a friend for a while.

1964 caddy fleet wood.

Original paint with a few spots of surface rust repaired and primered.

Nice clean intact original interior.

Steering wheel as thin as your little finger..

Engine and running gear sound good. Some service and lube should get it out cruising
For some check out time.

Buddy likes to find them as original as possible and keep them and use them that way.

Cheers Richard

It's always been the Mark V for me. The end of an era. Lincoln went down hill from there. If memory serves the VIII was a piece of crap.

The Mark VIII had full independent suspension, could be had with traction control and had the engine that later went into the Mustang Cobra SVT. What did the Mark V have except gargantuan gaudiness?

I wasn't making a comparison of the V to the VIII, I simply that the V is the vehicle I have always liked. You asked for opinions on the VIII. The VII may have had all you state but, as I recall it wasn't a very good vehicle.

But as a comparison the V even with it's Gargantuan Gaudiness it is by far a better looking vehicle than the VIII. I have little doubt that the VIII is a much better performer than the V even with the V having a 7.5L 460 making a whopping 208hp. You arrive in the V, the front of the car will get to the destination a day before you do but you will get there.

Enjoy your VIII.

Agree. There was some uproar over this scene in Goldfinger...
