Mercedes Question for the Porsche Pelicans
my wife's uncle passed recently. He had a '67 Merc 250S. Apparently some rust, mileage not really known (because someone didn't look at the odometer) but assuming between 60k and 75k miles. interior looks to be in relatively good shape.
Any thoughts on value or even if someone would want this thing?

4 door.
One of those awkward years style wise. Transitioning from the earlier body style to the more modern. Not really desirable from a collectors POV. Pig off the line. That car shines on the highway when you need to cruise in comfort. Some rust? You may have to pay someone to haul it away. Pristine it might fetch $7,500 Now if it's an SE 2 door coupe pristine is more like $30-40k If it's an SE ragtop, $75,000

I might be interested, where is the car located? I would drop in a 3L OM617 diesel that I took out of a 300D into it! would be a fun little project!

For the cool Alfred sporting classic RayBan's and loafers that likes to golf with real woods. The stacked headlamps still do it for me but if it only had those fintails.

I am dealing with this at a bit of a distance. Having said that, will try to post pics and provide some idea of the condition.

Based on the Hagerty valuation tool, and your stated condition of the car (rust issues), I would guess this is condition 4 (or lower) car (driver with condition issues) which seems to be in the $5,000 to $5,400 range. Top of the line condition 1 (show ready, best in the world, concours) cars are valued at around $13,400.
All that is based on the car being a 1967 Mercedes-Benz 250S 4dr Sedan with a 6-cyl.

Was wrong on the mileage, shows a tick over 36K. Have attached 2 pics. Not sure when I can get more as the family has gone to the funeral away from SF for a week or so. First $5250 takes it.

Even if the car were only driven for 18 of it's 48 yr life 36k would only be 2,000 miles per year.

you may be right. But it was owned by a guy who lived in SF and drove it only to get from his house to the local watering hole.

As far as the mileage goes, check for badges on the grill. Vintage Mercedes owners like to put the milestone mileage badges on the grill. Kind of a Mercedes thing.

136k is not a big deal. We used to say those things weren't broken in till 100k. The person that will buy that car will most likely be knowledgeable about them. They'll know in 30 seconds if it's 136 or 36k. If you advertise it at 36 and a buyer shows up and it's really 136k he's going to use that to beat you up on the price even if it's worth what you are asking. YMMV.

Those start at 250,000 Km (155,000 miles) and are issued in increments of 250,000 kilometers.

Doesn't matter what the odo shows. Has Becker tunes, color matched hubcaps and a gunsight on the hood. Could make for a fun road adventure. Change the fluids, oil and batt. and drive it for the next 30 years.

Any mileage representation on these cars is meaningless w/o complete records, meaning year-to-year for at least most of its life. Those odometers are 5-digit as pointed out and every one of them breaks, meaning 99+ out of 100. I've forgotten how many w108 cars I've owned, (4?), and worked on quite a few others.
From a practical/driver standpoint, the biggest issue with that particular model is that it is carbureted and certain carb parts are NLA. They tend to be difficult to keep running great on today's gas and carbs simply wear out after 40-50 years. From a valuation standpoint, the 4-door cars are plentiful and cheap in great condition. You may see people asking a lot for them but unless they are in truly showroom condition, they sell cheap if at all. It is very easy to "invest" more than the value of the car in repairs in the first months of ownership if they have mechanical needs. On the plus side, a nice example is a lovely car from a time when Mercedes-Benz cars were beautiful and made to last. It is not a car to restore in any scenario, you can buy the best one in the world for a fraction of the cost of a proper resto. I've owned them in jaw-dropping condition and they sold for mid-4 figures. ![]()

That was the cheapest MB model sold in 1967, with the exception of the 4-cyl diesel. The w114/115 cars did not come out until the 1968 model year.
