Broken Nose
Playing around at the gym this am and got kicked on my nose...really soft kick, full gear and somehow managed to break my nose. One of the guys at my gym is an ER doctor and good buddy reset it for me. Will have to go in I supposed to get some X-rays but outside of tenderness and the beginning of some darkening in my left eye, it looks to be ok?
Any experience in here? A couple of weeks of dark eyes? I work in a professional setting, have meetings this afternoon and showing up like I've been brawling isn't going to go well. Make up? |
Mine usually came with a black eye and swelling. Sometimes two black eyes. Depends on how bad it is...I needed surgery once. They have to break it all over again if that s the case...and you will definitely get swelling, two black eyes, and about 20 feet of gauze packed into your sinuses
Wear the black eye with pride...it will help at work. Be vague about how you got it. Everyone loves a bad ass. |
You and your friends should remove your shoes first, that way no ouchies.

Never had mine broken but my brother and my dad both had serious nose breaks. I'm pretty sure that the doctor just sets it straight, (OUCH), and there is a lot of bruising and swelling till it heals up.
I'm with Fint on the "wear it with pride" deal. My brother's came from the rifle butt of a cop in a very corrupt regime part of the world while he was pleading for the release of a hostage. |
Just go out and buy some large frame sunglasses and wear them in the office. Who knows, maybe you'll start a trend.

I was at my friend's Karate studio last night watching people spar, (American TKD), man those feet were flying. Including some really small girls who could knock all of your teeth out if a kick landed right/wrong. :)

The first rule of fight club is....
|
Well, its no bleeding anymore and I'm heading into the world...nose is purple, looks straight. Both eyes are now showing darkness.
I like the sunglasses idea but is cloudy and no sun for the next 4 or 5 days. I've never been hurt from a hard blow...always just a tap, broken ribs, broken wrist, dislocated fingers, torn ligaments, all from taps. I feel foolish and I'm trying to replay what happened and I think that I actually turned into the kick. The kid that kicked me has a Mao Thai boxing background and lightning fast. Oh well, here is to getting older and not being able to get out of the way. |
Tell everyone you can't talk about fight club.
|
Just tell them that the underwriter got it worse, and you managed to get the best deal for your client.
|
You can't really tell if it is straight until the swelling goes down. Mine is quite crooked despite having a plastic surgeon "fix" it the worst break. It wasn't worth it to me to have him smash it again to fix it. Especially since I already had some scars across the lower part where they sewed it back on from a previous "accident". It is not really obviously crooked except in photos where you reduce the observable dimensions.
|
I would not worry too much about it if it looks reasonably straight. It is just a nose. Mine has been modified too and it adds character.
You aren't going to cover this one up at work. Just face the music. If anyone asks (everyone will!), tell them your wife hit you and keep repeating and tell them "don't ask" until they aren't sure if you are serious or not. I went hunting one night many years ago, mid-week, leaving work early with an excuse. Exciting wild boar hunt, taking running shots with a high powered rifle, got some scope burn in the process. Next day everyone at work kept asking what happened ... the wife story diffused things nicely. :) G |
Yeah I got one while playing intramural football while in Vet school; bled like crazy for a few minutes, then a couple of nice shiners. I came into class the next morning and a couple of the guys who had been playing in the same game gave me an ovation. Everybody else just went WTF?

Tell everybody that after that last bout, you're done with fighting in the UFC. :D

My wife tripped on the sidewalk a few weeks ago falling and broke her nose. Went to the ER had a CAT scan and it was a break with no displacement. Her eyes never got black and blue, just swelling of the nose.
All I know is I sunk $20 k into her mouth last year, thank G_D it wasn't her teeth. I had my nose broken while playing basketball. Damn that hurt. My nose was a little crooked after that. Think about following up with a nose doc in about 2 weeks, just to be sure. Good Luck |

Sorry, I just had to type that word because I love it so much. |
like you.. my Lady competes in the sport..
she often sports black & blue marks.. she's proud... but I tend to get that look... Rika |
I have had mine broken 5 times...not fun. Twice by an elbow under the boards playing basketball, twice playing soccer - once by a kick and once by a hand, and once I was in a pickle during a baseball game, faked one way and turned to catch the ball in the shnozz.
never got hit in the face when I boxed. yup, hurts bad. |
When asked......the two appropriate responses are (depending on who's asking) :
1) "I'm not at liberty to say." (wink) 2) "Jealous lover." (shrug) |
