Ditched my 997 for grocery getter.

I had been kicking around the idea of getting a Mustang, but I decided to go in a different direction and get a 2011 MB E350 4 matic. I've had an E series before and really like it. It has everything I want, and frankly it was cheap. Lots of them floating around as lease returns. This one has a 'performance package' that has the larger AMG wheels, and slightly stiffer dampening. Clean, low mileage CPO car. Well equipped.

I'll be back in a P-car when the 2013 Cayman S starts drifting a bit farther down the depreciation curve......

Ugh - did you trade in the 997? That is about as boring as it gets. The Mustang would have been respectable in comparison! :D

Noah930 02-26-2015 08:27 PM

Hey, it has everything he wants. Just pat him on the back for his AARP tastes.

aigel 02-26-2015 08:31 PM

He is in the heartland. Maybe a MB is something exotic there?

M.D. Holloway 02-26-2015 09:24 PM

I like it. My Dad had one, got rid of it a few years ago when he turned 87.

Teasing! Awesome ride. Good choice. Ponys are for kids.

rusnak 02-26-2015 09:30 PM

Ugh. The wheels and front, headlights etc just look like ass.

Embraer 02-26-2015 10:43 PM

I like it

BRPORSCHE 02-26-2015 10:55 PM

Jeez you Gus are brutal tonight.

I like it too. Just rode in a 2013 e350 convertible the other day, and I have got to say it was pretty sweet.

Heel n Toe 02-26-2015 11:28 PM

HD, I think you are mischaracterizing when you refer to that Benz as a grocery getter... it is easily several levels above that.

A Kia Soul is a grocery getter... as is a Nissan Juke... stuff like that qualifies... not this.

Enjoy it... I'm sure it will be just what the doctor ordered until you're ready to get back closer to the ground.

ckelly78z 02-27-2015 02:59 AM

In the heartland a MB is actually an exotic, You can't believe how many Buicks and pickup trucks grace the road around here. Spotting a Porsche in my hometown of 60,000 people is like seeing a UFO, I have had one for 5 years now, and honestly, I think there is one other 944 in the county. This is truly the center of conservativism, and boring, I think the nearest Porsche and MB dealerships are 60 miles away.

onewhippedpuppy 02-27-2015 03:03 AM

Well that took an unexpected turn......

Oh Haha 02-27-2015 03:09 AM

Looks like a nice score!

Shaun @ Tru6 02-27-2015 03:42 AM

Now I can't use the "some guy in Turkey is going to love your 997" line.

I like E350s a lot, would love a wagon myself, keep us posted on reliability.

What's cheap on these?

Oh Haha 02-27-2015 03:57 AM

You sold the Mustang, too?

$28k for a CPO car. 32k miles. Available a lot cheaper if go higher miles and non-CPO.

I like wagons too, but they go for a large premium.

Wow, that is amazing.

Around here I see Porsches all the time. There are a ton of the newer cars on the road. I was in traffic behind A Cayenne GTS just today. Panamaras ans Caymans are all over. We have a fairly active PCA region so I see a lot of Porsches at those meetings.

We do for sure have a LOT of pickups but they are for the most part work trucks and farm trucks.

Yes, gone, but I intend to own another one some day, perhaps soon.

Porsches are not rare in Columbus. I've also seen a surprising number of Ferrari here. However, C-bus is not like the rest of Ohio....

berettafan 02-27-2015 04:59 AM

well that's less than our Honda minivan cost.

neat to own something like that at least once.

even if it does look like a lexus.

RANDY P 02-27-2015 05:00 AM

not bad, but, why? Its like trading a table saw for a subway sandwich.

URY914 02-27-2015 05:08 AM

And it has a trunk so you can carry this with you.....

berettafan 02-27-2015 05:11 AM

I dunno, you could probably stop at a U Haul and get them to install a fancy hitch and get one of those scooter carrying apparatus doodads for it.

PS, you now wear 'slacks'.

Neither the MB nor the Porsche has much snow clearance. Now the P car has gone are you going to miss it.....:(

herr_oberst 02-27-2015 05:14 AM

Nice ride, HD. My boss has one and he likes it just fine....AND he recently sold his factory slant-nose 930.

{Note to self: Don't show off any new purchases on this bbs unless I feel überconfident about that purchase. This can be a tough crowd.}

I drive that car in a wagon occasionally, (2013 E350 4-matic), it's great looking IMO and really nice but about as far from exciting/interesting/engaging as you can get in a German car. Does the job beautifully but sleep inducing, it's so quiet and smooth.

Macroni 02-27-2015 06:43 AM

I like it...... but then again I drive a Passat diesel.....

creaturecat 02-27-2015 07:37 AM

Do you miss the P car?
You did not like the 997?
Lotta groceries? :)

BlueSkyJaunte 02-27-2015 07:46 AM

LOL, you guys are brutal. :D

Every time I so much as glance at a Benz my wife preemptively vetoes the notion. She says she's afraid of looking like Yakuza.

HardDrive 02-27-2015 08:01 AM

You guys ARE brutal:D

I loved the 997, but I don't miss it. It was time. It just wasn't what I need right now.

Ya know, I bought that 997S when I was living in Seattle. I torn up roads all over the Cascade mountain range in it. Drove it 150mph+ many times in Eastern WA and Montana. Driving here in Ohio....meh. Yeah, I've hit the Hocking hills and explored a bit...but its just not the same. And the police presence here is off the charts compared to WA. I think the 997S was a love affair I had in another land, and I now that I'm here, its just not the same. And as any car guys knows, when one door closes, another opens....

CPO MB's are such a great deal. Low rates through MBFS, two payments made by MBFS, two years of maintenance, total five years warranty, with unlimited miles. This is better than any manufacture out there. Just bought the wife a 2012 GLK350 4 matic. Way better than the Subaru she came from. We had a 2015 E350 as a service loaner, and it was an awesome car. Congrats on the purchase!

911boost 02-27-2015 01:28 PM

Ugggh.

Yeah

Absolutely.

Modern cars are all so good it really is all about need for the DD. The 997 or the Mercedes is not exactly a Hobson's choice.

Enjoy.

I,m in the same boat. With a lingering left knee injury I am considering trading my 993 for a newer BMW 3 series with auto and some cash back

rusnak 02-28-2015 11:10 AM

Just having fun with you HD. Glad you're a good sport about it.

This^. When I lived in Chicago, I drove my 3-series home for the holidays and they made as much of a fuss as when I drove the Porsches or my Z4. Now that I've moved back, I see why - almost all I see are trucks, suvs, and sedans, mostly domestic or darn near (Hondas and Toyotas built near here). Hell, I've seen ONE Mini Cooper in the last six months.

Then again, I'm part of the problem - I'm shopping for a Ranger myself, to help move my motorcycles around. My New Year's resolution is to get my first project bike, after all.

bri450sl 02-28-2015 11:58 AM

A MB is nothing but class. The fact that you got it for such a deal shows your no fool. Enjoy it.
