It's blue and black or so the news last night said, why am I even making a comment here like I care? All I know is that the model what was wearing the dress on the news last night had a great figure

Mainstream...its a reflection of our culture like it or not. At the very base it is about personal opinion and perception.

Ok, yesterday I pulled the article up on the BBC website. The first time that I looked at the pic in the article, it was very, VERY plainly white and gold. The white looked like it was underexposed due to harsh backlighting which made it look a little bit bluish gray. I got distracted by work and then went back to finish reading the article a bit later, and that time, I thought I was looking at a completely different picture. I even reloaded the page and waited a bit to see if they had used an animated gif to show two different pictures, because the second time, the shot was clearly of a blue and black dress. Same picture, same webpage, same environment, but my brain perceived it completely differently.

Quote:
The original image is in the middle. At left, white-balanced as if the dress is white-gold. At right, white-balanced to blue-black. swiked
Interesting, my wife hadn't seen/heard of this. I sent her to a website to look at the pic and she saw white and tan/gold. I then changed the lighting in the room and she pulled her glasses off and she saw how it could be blue and black.

The problem to me is clear, it's a crappy cell phone pic, but I have to say, I was shocked, shocked to the point of believing that I was being screwed with at how different the same pic on the same website on the same computer screen at the same desk in the same lighting looked to me when I looked two times but a few mins apart. I think the dress is blue/black, BTW.

How can something as superficial and insignificant grab the attention of so many people?

I don't watch TV or read internet news, so PPOT is actually one of the few places I get "news."

I hadn't heard of this until some of my staff were talking about it yesterday at work. I was pretty happy that this stupid story hadn't come up on PPOT...now you've gone and done it

The fact that a huge part of the world is discussing such an inane topic is a sure sign of the end of days.

People will arque over the price of a $5 coffee, and swallow a politician spending Billions on a project doomed to fail.

Its all perspective.

Maybe on topic, I'm not sure.
I was at Kroger getting gas yesterday. Kroger gives you cents off per gallon of gas based on the amount of money you've spent with them over the past month, so the last day of the month everyone is trying to cash in their savings. The idiotic routine is to fill up and lay the nozzle on the ground to keep the pump open so your friend/family member can get in on the savings based on your purchases. One family had three cars lined up, Dad filled up and stood in front of the pump like Hulk Hogan keeping others away while mom and snot-nosed kid maneuvered through the traffic to get to the pump and onlookers glared with disgust. Dad had a truck, but mom and snot-nosed kid had Hondas. For all the logistics involved in getting the three vehicles there at the same time, the sitting around in the cold with engines idling, and looking like a family of douche nozzles, the Hondas pumped 6 and 8 gallons, for a total savings of $2.80. But it's the thing to do.

Wow, we used to live and shop right by a Kroger. It had the same deal, but I'd never thought of that, and never noticed someone else doing it. People are crazy. I bet they ran into Kroger and spent a bunch of money on beer, cigarettes and junk food.

Yep, that's a nice shade of blue and black.

It really was strange. GF and I were sitting next to eachother looking at the same TV (of course) and she saw blue and black, I saw white and gold.
