Vintage cars, trucks, M/cycles

It's being reported in local papers that approx. 40 vintage cars, trucks and bikes were lost in an overnight fire in a storage barn where these vehicles were stored for the winter. It's a common practice here to store your collector car in some out of the way unused barn, sometimes for 6 or 8 months,. I always said If I couldn't keep my collector stuff home in my own place I wouldn't have them.

This is a great shame and I probably know lots of the guys' cars and hot rods. Makes me feel sad for them. Hope they can get some sort of comp from insurance, if they bothered to keep them insured (incredibly) some don't.

Man that's rough, but thankfully no one was hurt.
A friend of ours has a 65 Mustang given to her by her parents. Since their house is beside the main road, it spends the summers with a "NOT for Sale" sign in the windshield and the winters in a storage barn about 20 miles away. I can imagine how she would feel if it was her car.

It says they all had insurance.

I'll be surprised if there isn't more to this story. I've seen some of these barns, potato and fertilizer warehouses that are advertised as "clean, dry, heated" storage and I wouldn't put my 10 yr old Toyota in them. You have to put them in by Nov and can't get them out till May or later. Not for me, I like to drive mine every chance I get. .

Mr Cudmore's place might be different. We'll see.

I've got friends who put their very nice cars like '69 Z28's, and other nice muscle cars and sports cars etc. in storage even when they have nice garages. They put their snow blowers and lawn mowers in the garage and the car in storage. Strange.

Hope they all do have insurance. Very sad all this.

Sad - I store my 73.5 Targa in a bay of a detached garage at my rental house 100 miles away....Just brought it home last night, driving across the mountains w/o the top on in the dark......It frees up garage space in the winter for me so I can get most of my other vehicles in...

I store my 911 in my 2 car attached garage. My wife's car is in the other bay. My new DD has to sit outside in the weather in the driveway. What I wouldn't give for a 3 car garage.

When people found out we were building a new barn on our property, they wondered if they could store thier boats/campers/ muscle cars/junk in my barn. I store my own Porsche in the garage bay attached to the house, but I don't want anybody's other stuff clogging up a usable barn or the liability if something should happen even so small as a scratch, let alone a fire of that magnitude.

Good policy!
